1. As #CCC turns a year older...

Is it not truly amazing just how much time flies.

Indeed, it's been now a whole full year since that nerve-wracking announcement & address to the Nation by Nelson, on formal notifications to ZEC, announcing CCC's entry onto the electoral field.
2. As the history is now been fully told, that announcement on January 24th, was a culmination of what Nelson termed "citizens engagements on the way forward."

Something which was to be key, if the new yellow movement was to have a strong foundation & identity.
3. Here is my personal reflection on the CCC one year anniversary.

Firstly, the Jan 24th, 2002 announcement of CCC, perhaps somewhat forced by that year's impending by-election, was irregardless, a much awaited 'signal', showing an intent at reclaiming the democratic space.
4. Months prior, Opposition politics as we know it, had turned into a sorry spectacle.

The ugly fight for the "MDC" name, & subsequent overreaching hand of the judiciary (ZanuPF) in deciding MDC internal matters (leadership), left many disillusioned, demoralized & disengaged.
5. Strange & unidentifiable had become our politics, that MDC-A's 2018 opponents had turned into its leadership.

The circus resulted into a HH coup, where individuals who had played little to no role in the election of MDC-A public representatives, could now recall them at will.
6. To that end, CCC presented an opportunity for citizens to actually act on their claims.

The politics of boardrooms & press conferences was eventually replaced by electoral contestation, with CCC offering a platform for citizens to potentially reclaim their voices & authority.
7. Secondly, the significance of CCC's entry onto the political field was a confirmation of the claim that the fight for the democratization of 🇿🇼 was a shared belief, bigger than names, colors & symbols.

Much as those are important for identification, citizens are clear.
8. For +20 years, the name "Tsvangirai", colour "red" & "MDC" acronym, have all been key features of Opposition politics.

Even when the MDC institution split, there was always a desperation to maintain association through those.

Attempting to start all over, was a true test.
9. And what became quite interesting about how the political market embraced the new CCC product, was the #YellowFriday spectacle

With no equivocation, citizens expressed unmistakable excitement around the new name, & the yellow color, slowly signaling death for the RED identity
10. Thirdly, the existence of CCC has allowed for a total re-imagination of how citizens' can actively contribute to their struggle.

NC on his part, always argues that if "gate-keeping" means closing space for new ideas & personalities, then its undesirable & counterproductive.
11. It was thus amazing being part of twitter spaces, listening to citizens aligned to CCC, adding their voice in structuring the party.

Perhaps the most exciting part has been resource mobilization.

Like no other party, CCC has created so much space for the diaspora community.
12. It's also fair to acknowledge the role of women & youths, in CCC.

Again, CCC, like no other party, has given key roles to some of the most exciting & capable of our women.

Youths & pro-youth groups have also taken a stand, primarily around voter education & registration.
13. And ofcourse, it wasn't going to be possible to main excitement around CCC, solely because of a new name and color.

Citizens were inevitably going to demand "newness" in terms of substance & political offering & value propositions.

It has been exciting to watch this as well
14. To this end, the "citizens at the center" philosophy has been disruptively exciting.

Sometimes, it's in the simple things, e.g. the departure from shef-rism culture where CCC officials now seat in the sun with wanachi at rallies.

The logic is refocusing attention to issues.
15. Ofcourse, it'll take time before "citizens at the center" philosophy becomes our political culture.

It's resistance will always come from the politicians who enjoy being at the center themselves, much to the detriment of the citizens.

Even the citizens have a lot to unlearn
16. And ofcourse, in terms of policy substance, CCC will inevitably have to formally present its: what, how, where & when, beyond threads & press conference.

Alternative policy blueprints will need to be allowed to have a life of their own.

Such conversations are needed.
17. In the midst of all this excitement & hope that CCC has offered, it would be preposterous to claim that it has been all smooth sailing.

Tragically, like many new entries in the wild serengeti, CCC has had to learn how to run, before learning how to walk.
18. Let's face the facts, without CCC on the political table, our politics would've been very different.

The capture of MDC almost eliminated Opp politics.

ZanuPF wouldn't be bothering about rigging because in all honest, no other party is showing any meaningful threat.
19. In these defining months, CCC now has to show more fight than flight.

On their part, citizens have to continue making the uncomfortable demands & asking the difficult questions to Nelson & everyone.

If such a culture is normalized, then citizens will truly be at the center.
20. Lastly, I can't help but admit how much I miss following CCC rally visuals.

When interested in something, Zimbabweans are an interesting bunch.
Innovations around regalia, songs, were fun to watch.

Come June, may CCC deliver on the promise.
Happy Yellow birthday.

enkosi!

1. One tragic feature of @DrivenChapman's politics, is wanting to appear as better than the current main Opposition party.

Whether this is deliberate or coincidental, the otherwise likeable guy, consequently does extra damage to the perceptions around his intention & agenda. Image
2. It's self-serving, to try & hoodwink the citizens into locating & reducing the 🇿🇼 n challenges from the GNU era, a period of alleged "lost opportunity"

It doesn't help proponents of that argument, that for the generality of citizens, the era actually brought so much stability
3. Fighting ZanuPF with 'soft hands' also doesn't help the membership & leadership especially, for any party wishing to be identified as Opposition.

For all intent & purposes, only ZanuPF has ever held state power since Independence.

That's a lived Zimbabwean reality.

1. Got reminded of this thread, after watching some video on FB, where one Peter Moyo (MDC MP) got a thunderous reception from ZanuPF MPs after suggesting a delayal of the 2023 election.

His argument appeared simple as he bemoaned that ZEC had conducted a shambolic delimitation.
2. Admittedly though, the reaction of ZanuPF appeared somewhat bizarre, especially after their attack on Adv Chamisa, not so long back.

Nelson tweeted that "mukoma (ED) is afraid of elections.." & got attacked by ZanuPF, from Mutsvangwa, to Ziyambi, to Charamba & the varakashi.
3. My own line of argument, which I tried to explain in the thread attached to the first tweet, remains that ZanuPF is deliberately creating the delimitation crisis.

It would be preposterous to imagine that ZanuPF has lost control of ZEC, to a point of needing court interdicts.

1. Saw some funny post by @ProfJNMoyo where he now praises Passion Java for his theatrics, misrepresented as music promotion.

Perhaps exile is affecting Prof's memory, but in 2021, he correctly observed that Mr Mnangagwa had essentially turned Passion Java into his Commissar ImageImageImage
2. Also, @ProfJNMoyo insulted citizens aggrieved by how Passion Java makes these international artists wear the infamous Mnangagwa scarf.

Funny enough, in a heated exchange with the British Catriona Laing, Prof Moyo ridiculed her for wearing what he termed the "voodoo scarf". ImageImageImageImage
3. Sad isn't it, that when it was convenient for @ProfJNMoyo, Passion Java was a "political delinquent on steroids.

Now that @ProfJNMoyo feels like it, the same Panganai Gava, should be praised as a music promoter, helping 'internationalize' local artists (read Roki)!

1. Good evening great Zimbabweans, & fellow citizens around the world

A short thread....

On the 31st of March 2020, they were convinced they had buried him.... ImageImage
2. Little did they know....they had buried a seed.

..and that the seed was simply going to germinate into a BIG YELLOW TREE... ImageImage
3. Now that the seed they buried has grown into a big tree, they don't know what to do with it.

After failing to uproot the tree, they've now invested in trying to chop off its branches, until it falls down... ImageImageImageImage

1. The absurdity of the #Murehwa violence is that it's actually senior citizens, who have experienced the Smith era; Mugabe era; & now the Mnangagwa era,- who want change & a better Zimbabwe.

Tragically, it's young people who are butchering them, & want the status qou to remain.
2. I've been replaying the video to try and capture some details about the victims.

Here's what I picked up:

i. Mrs Nyaradzai- 48 years
ii. Mr F Dongo- 75 years
iii. Mrs C Mutezo- 62 years
iv. Mrs T Dongo- 60 years
v. Mr Morris - 73 years

The 2 Dongos are possibly a couple
3. How do you even begin to comprehend the frustration of senior citizens who experienced the indignity of colonization, now being humiliated by excitable party thugs?

Does power mean so much to ZanuPF, that they're willing to humiliate & traumatize our parents like that?

1. This is ZanuPF's legacy, in our body politick.

They systematically replaced the politics of ideas, with the politics of propaganda.

They replaced the politics of debate, with the politics of violence.

They've replaced the politics of civility, with the politics of bloodshed
2. Sadly, neither the callous attack on defenseless senior citizens, and the recording of these visuals is random.

It's a deliberate political cultivation of fear, particularly in the countryside.

Citizens are being deliberately warned against engaging in Opposition politics.
3. The problem we face as a country, is that neither the perpetrators & masterminds of political violence have faced justice.

Since independence itself, we have just shifted from one ugly episode of political violence to another, pursued fake "reconciliation" without any justice
