If you think Charles McGonagal's relationship with Oleg Deripaska was bad, wait til you hear about @Chris_D_Steele. Steele was a far bigger player in the Trump-Russia probe than McGonagal. A thread:
While Steele was working for the FBI and for Democrats, he lobbied DOJ officials on behalf of Deripaska, who had visa issues at the time. He claimed that Deripaska was not the Kremlin puppet that U.S. officials believed. The DOJ's inspector general report has details:
Steele worked for Deripaska's attorney on Deripaska's legal matters, including sanctions and visa restrictions.
The FBI team investigating Trump/Russia, which relied heavily on Steele's dossier, *claims* they didn't know of this relationship but would have wanted to know.
These Keystone Kops didn't think to look at Steele's source file, which had info about his links to oligarchs, until after they cut him off as a source because of his deception.
FBI's Transnational Crime Intelligence Unit raised concerns about Steele's ties to oligarchs back in 2015. Unsurprisingly, all of the Crossfire Hurricane investigators pass the buck regarding who had responsibility to vet Steele.
From a declassified footnote in that report. Representatives for *five* Russian oligarchs used Steele as an intermediary to contact the FBI.
At a crucial point in Crossfire Hurricane (days before the first FISA would be granted), Steele was lobbying for Deripaska. He contacted DOJ's Bruce Ohr regarding sanctions on Deripaska's company.
As of February 2017, Steele was still working for Deripaska. What we don't know is whether Steele worked for Deripaska after he was personally sanctioned in 2018, and whether he still works for him.
2 reasons why this matters:

*It's hypocritical for Trump-Russia investigators to be on an oligarch's payroll.
*Steele/McGonagal were compromised by working for Deripaska and vulnerable to disinformation. This is worse for Steele, who was paid by Deripaska during Trump probe

This is something....While at FBI, Charles McGonigal essentially opened an investigation into an American lobbyist working for Albania's opposition party. McGonigal was at the time covertly on the payroll of Albanian agents. courtlistener.com/docket/6675012… Image
The indictment doesn't specify, but this could be the FBI investigation into former Trump aide Nick Muzin, who represented the Democratic Party of Albania. ocnal.com/2018/03/fbi-la…
And wouldn't you know it -- David Corn, who worked with Chris Steele to push the fake collusion narrative -- did the first story about this American lobbyist who was being targeted by McGonigal. motherjones.com/politics/2018/…

House GOP released an interim report on Hunter Biden, previewing their investigation.

The report includes two Suspicious Activity Reports regarding Hunter. They're seeking 150 more from the Treasury Department but claim the Biden admin is blocking those. freebeacon.com/biden-administ…
One of the Suspicious Activity Reports is from JP Morgan regarding 93 wire transfers from Hunter and his associates totaling $2.5 million.
A caveat here is that the whole SARs process is kind of ridiculous. This Hunter SAR shows that "negative media" triggered the bank to submit a SAR.

A quick little thread on how Shaun King deceives people about how much money he gets from his various social justice endeavors. Daily Beast reports that King received $100k from his Grassroots Law Project in 2020, and is getting about $250k now. thedailybeast.com/inside-shaun-k…
The trick is that King operates the 501c3 Grassroots Law Project alongside two PACs. This lets him hide the ball on how he gets paid. When he denies getting paid, he focuses on $$ he does/does not receive from the PACs. But he gets paid by the 501c3, which is funded by the PACs.
In 2020, he claimed that he works "for free" for Action PAC, which is the forerunner to Grassroots Law PAC. he urged supporters to check out FEC filings to verify he's not getting paid. He was technically telling the truth, but... Image

Hopefully the Durham report will expand on @BrookingsInst role in the Steele dossier. A timeline in light of the latest filing against dossier source Igor Danchenko, an ex-Brookings analyst. freebeacon.com/latest-news/fb…
FBI opened a counterintel probe on Danchenko in 2009, after a Brookings colleague said he inquired whether he could buy classified info, and said he had someone willing to pay for it.
Somehow, Danchenko remained at Brookings. In 2010, he co-authored a paper with Fiona Hill, who would later join the Trump admin and was a star witness in the first impeachment brookings.edu/research/one-s…
