Today, @SenBobCasey & @RepDebDingell reintroduced the Better Care Better Jobs Act, a historic investment that addresses the direct care workforce crisis and invests in services for older adults and disabled people 👏
Here’s why this is important 🧵
The Better Care Better Jobs Act would strengthen and expand access to Home and Community Based Services by extending eligibility to more than 3 million additional people.
It would also create hundreds of thousands of new, high-quality jobs by increasing wages and benefits and protecting the right to organize.
Support for family caregivers would also be expanded, including respite care and training opportunities, and make it possible for family caregivers to maintain employment and make ends meet.
The act would also require states to increase availability of personal care services, and improve programs that help disabled workers join the workforce and keep their Medicaid-funded Home and Community Based Services.
Everyone deserves to receive care where and how they want, and Caring Across Generations applauds this effort because #CareCantWait.

Today, the world will see the footage of Memphis police brutally beating Tyre Nichols to death after an unwarranted traffic stop, 100 yards from his Mother’s house.
This tragedy is a direct result of anti-Black racism and violent policing practices. A thread.
Tyre was a 29-year-old Black man who lived in Memphis and grew up in Sacramento. Tyre was a devoted brother, son, and dad to a 4-year baby boy. He worked at FedEx, lived with Crohn’s disease, and was a skateboarder. Let's remember him living his best life.
We mourn with Tyre’s family and loved ones — and know that it's past time to transform our society so Black communities can live in safety and joy, not fear and pain – and one of the most important pieces of that is tackling the fundamental idea of how police function.
Following today’s reintroduction of the Better Care Better Jobs Act from @SenBobCasey & @RepDebDingell, @aijenpoo shared the following statement:
“The Better Care Better Jobs Act represents a historic investment in a long undervalued and underfunded care industry… 1/8
…and will address waitlists and other barriers that disabled people, older adults and family caregivers face when trying to access the services they need in their homes and communities. 2/8
We cannot expand access to services without addressing the fact that the direct care workforce is in severe crisis with workers who aren’t paid fairly even though they do the vital work of caring for our loved ones. 3/8
Our Statement responding to @GovWhitmer's 2023 State of the State.
“We were pleased to hear Governor Whitmer’s proposal for pre-K for all four-year-olds, building upon the historic early childhood education investments passed last year.
🧵(1/5)
"We were also happy to hear how the Governor is standing up for Michigan workers through so many of her proposals. Care work makes all other work possible, & our direct care workforce must not be forgotten in any effort from Lansing to improve the lives of working families. (2/5)
"We call on our elected leaders to make historic investments to increase wages for direct care professionals across Medicaid Home and Community Based Services programs. (3/5)
Today, on what would be the 50th Anniversary of #RoeVWade, @aijenpoo shared the following statement:
“Everyone should have the opportunity and means to care and make decisions for themselves, their families and futures. 1/8
No matter what it looks like or the role we play, family is at the heart of what we value most. The Supreme Court’s decision to overturn #RoeVWade has taken away one critical way people can manage their lives, health, and wellbeing. 2/8
Forcing someone to carry a pregnancy against their will can have devastating and lasting consequences for them and their family. 3/8
This past weekend, Daniel Davis Aston, Derrick Rump, Kelly Loving, Ashley Paugh, and Raymond Green Vance were killed by a hate-filled gunman at a gay and lesbian bar in Colorado Springs. 19 people were injured and yet another queer community in this country is reeling. 1/4
Our hearts are broken. But we also know that words are not enough.
The truth is hundreds of millions of queer and trans people across the country — and the world — feel unsafe in their communities every day. 2/4
We’re dedicated to protecting the rights of all queer and trans people every day — and fighting back against the wave of homophobic and transphobic rhetoric, legislative bills, and the hate crimes they produce. 3/4
