Biden and Congress reportedly want to send the 40-year-old Chrysler M1 Abrams tank to Ukraine. Many believe sending the tank would escalate the conflict and ironically cripple Ukraine's fighting ability - as they're not equipped to field the platform.

It costs around $4M a year to keep an M1 Abrams running during peacetime. Costs during wartime will be MUCH higher. The tank's turbine engine is very finicky. It takes 3-4 highly trained crew AND a dozen support personnel to keep one running.

The average mean time between repairs is 700 hours during peacetime but in combat conditions, the Abrams may only be operational for 200 hours or less. Only the most well-equipped and technologically advanced military can operate the Abrams. Ukraine isn't ready.
