Seeing as my previous list no longer exists, I'll start a new one. For every like this post gets I will post a reason why Russia is a shithole. I have more experience in Russia than 95% of those who say they're Russia experts. Hopefully this will help me get a job in a think tank
You guys are killing me. 89. You can go to jail for 15 years for saying the word "war" but for murder a casual 2 years is common.
90. As a rule Russian films come in two forms: complete shit and long boring post-modern drivel that's super depressing.
91. I was popular with the ladies in Russia because I 1. am not a drunk 2. cook and 3. don't beat women. These are highly valued and hard to find to traits in Russian men.
92. While that's being a bit rude, not all Russian men are drunk. Some are actually bright and if they are scientist and come up with a great idea, it's best they stay silent about it and flee the country. Your academic work will be stolen from you and you will be crushed.
93. This horrible puff stuff from trees covers European Russia during the spring. It's highly flammable and it's a fun game of the kids to collect and put under cars then light it on fire.
94. Russian men are actually scared of women. I was present at my child's birth (a very difficult task in Russia). I told some Russian guys about it and they all reacted the same "eww gross, why would you want to be there?"
95. Though generally as a rule men are just not allowed to be anywhere near woman giving birth and for a few days after. It's insane but so are most things in that country.
96. I got thoroughly chewed out by a boss for coming to work sleep deprived for the half year of my child's life. "Men are not supposed to help take care of the baby" I was told.
97. While Russians hate homosexuals most Russian men are raised by a same-sex couple. His mother and grandmother.
98. I once watched a car crash happen right in front a cop who was directing traffic. As soon as it happened, he looked at his watch and just walked off instead of doing anything.
99. Which is quite the problem as if you are in a car crash and you move your car out from the middle of traffic, forget about insurance paying up. You need to stay put and wait for the cops to write a report. So many traffic jams are a result of this nonsense.
100. I am very lucky my car broke down when I was in Finland. Despite it being less than 2 years old, VW wasn't going to recognize any warranty in Russia. I got a major fix repair done on their dime because I was not in Russia at that moment.
101. Word has it that starting in March you will need an exit visa to leave Russia by car or bus. I guess that's really a benefit for the rest of us.
102. How often do you have to add windshield wiper fluid to your car? Once or twice a year? Drive around Russia in the winter for a day a be prepared to refill it 5 times a day. They claim it's because of the climate but Other northern countries don't have this problem.
103. If you are in Russia for anytime you seem to get used to the general dirtiness. However drive across the border to even Belarus and you notice immediately how dirty Russia is.
104. A huge percentage of the population is under crippling debt. Payday loans and credit for iphones are omnipresent. Suicide is a common way out of such debt.
106. Ramzan Kadyrov has two wives. One of them was 14 when he married her (last year).
107. Actually this fairly common in Chechnya (child brides for their leaders). Totally illegal in Russia but rules don't apply down there.
108. There are people who chew fresh tar from streets as a bubblegum. It's not common but it does happen.
109. The retirement age is set about the same as the life expectancy. That's not a bug but a feature. There are those who live past that if they don't have family they can live in a state-run retirement home. People starving to death there is not unheard of.
110. If you have ever seen the fetishism that western tankies have for Russia, it's nothing compared to the fetishism Russia has for the west. They covet the west. They talk about it all of the time and even add to words the prefix "euro" that means a better version.
111. There are microphones now in doctor's offices.
Here is a listicle from some FSB funded shit account here on (formerly) twitter. I am an actual russia so I will make my own listicle explaining why each point is either wrong, misleading, or moot.
Thread🧵👇
1. About a year ago, it was calculated that 1 in 50 military-age men in russia had become a casualty in Ukraine, with 1 in 150 having been killed. Since then that number has doubled.
2. Many "cool" cars which get stolen the most often are delivered to California before anywhere else. Those cars are put on boats and sent to places like russia. So the desirable cars are already stolen.
There is evidence that some part of the Russian government has been manufacturing synthetic cathinones (a class of drug, often called "bath salts") and selling them since at least 2014 to help fund their war in the Donbas and not only. 1/x
This has been investigated by a few journalists in the past. The most common synthetic cathinone is methedrone, which gained popularity particularly in the UK around 2010. Starting around 2014, the drug first appeared in Russia and became very popular with young people. 2/x
Another common cathinone that appeared in Russia at the same time is Alpha-PVP (a.k.a. flakka). Both are stimulants, but unlike amphetamines which are used around the world as performance enhancers, these two drugs have a strong narcotic effect. 3/x
I was doing research in a library to help improve my bio-weapon lizard breeding practices and stumbled up some fascinating pictures that indicate the Fellas have been around much longer than previously known.
In the dark corner of my local library I found several very old books published around 1700 that indicated the Fellas have existed since at least the 13th century. I didn't understand the writing in the text but these images suggest they were involved in debunking the church.
It also seems that a certain line of Fellas had 6 legs. Also I believe I discovered @the_reshet's ancestor.
When can we expect tanks to be rolling in Ukraine? 🧵1/x
I am not an expert on frozen soils but I happen to know two of them and they helped me figure this out. The calculations used in this thread are based on average monthly temperatures and not current conditions. Let's look at Svatove. 2/x
These are the average temperatures. You can see that the average temperature for December is -3C.
