I'm STILL seeing, "If only Garland had moved faster, Trump couldn't be running for president again now!"
Come ON, people! You should know by now that indictments, even convictions, can't prevent someone from running for (or being elected) president.
1/8
Besides, the pre-trial legal maneuvering would mean that had Trump been indicted a year ago, his trial likely wouldn't have even started yet.
The only effect of an indictment so far would have been to let Trump raise hundreds of millions by presenting himself as a victim.
2/8
It isn't DOJ's job to save you. They don't have that power, and you wouldn't want them to have it. If indicting someone could prevent that person from running for office, Trump would have had Bill Barr indict every Democrat in the country.
Come on already. Think a little.
3/8
"BuT wHaT aBoUt ThE FoUrTeEnTh AmEnDmEnT?"
=IF= Trump or some other politician is found guilty of "insurrection or rebellion against" the U.S., there's a chance that person can be barred from office. But here's the rub: The 14th doesn't enforce itself.
4/8
There would be months--maybe years--of legal wrangling through the courts (and the Supreme Court) and probably in the halls of Congress. Don't count on that process moving fast, or smoothly, or coming out the way you want it to.
5/8
Even keeping Trump out of office wouldn't help anyway. There are dozens of Mini-Me's all set to take his place. Hundreds, maybe. The House, Senate, governorships and state legislatures are infested with them. You cannot lock up everyone you don't like.
6/8
Trump is a danger--and Trumpism is a danger--NOT because the DOJ is (supposedly) moving too slowly, but because there are too many Americans who will vote for fascists. And too many others who can't be bothered to vote at all.
7/8
The ONLY solution is to vote. To vote for Democrats. For every office on every ballot in every district in every state in every election, forever more, Amen.
And to get other people to vote that way, too.
Democracy works by winning elections. Not by putting people in jail.
8/8
PS. Yes, everyone who committed crimes against America should be indicted and prosecuted. My point is: THAT WON'T SAVE YOU.
Then-VP Biden sat with then-President Obama in 2011, the last time Republicans tried to use the debt limit as extortion to demand policy changes they couldn't otherwise get.
In 2011, every time a deal was close, Republicans demanded more. Whenever Republicans are met halfway, they back up to put more space between them and any possible deal.
They haven't gown up any. The Chaos Caucus did that to McCarthy over his Speakership.
2/6
During the humiliating 15-ballot marathon to choose a Speaker, McCarthy gave up so much to the House Cthulhu worshippers that Matt Gaetz eventually said he couldn't even think of anything more to demand. And he =still= didn't vote for McCarthy in the end.
3/6
A few years ago, Barack Obama described why Republicans like vote suppression. At 55% turnout, Republicans win. At 60% turnout, Democrats win. At 65%, Democrats win in a walk. At 70% turnout, there is no longer a Republican Party.
1/6
The competition for ideas, Obama say, was won by Democrats long ago. Now, we're in a competition for engagement.
Democratic ideas, principles, programs and candidates are all massively popular, and have been for a long time.
2/
When Republicans prevent people from voting--even through "passive suppression," simply discouraging engagement and making people think their votes don't matter--the people primarily affected are Democratic voters.
Creating more interest in in elections = Democratic wins.

Learn a true story. You'll find out why at the end.
Aaron Swenson was sentenced to fifty years in prison for threatening to kill police. Armed with three guns, 150 rounds of ammunition, and a katana, he livestreamed his attempts to find cops to kill.
He's one of the Boogaloo Boys, a right-wing extremist Trumpist cabal dedicated to causing a race war.
Cops work real hard when someone threatens their own. They were on this case like Karens at a Black Friday sale. Not a second wasted. Total dedication.
2/7
Swenson was caught red-handed. He livestreamed his intentions. Cops were protecting their own. There was no doubt he was guilty. This isn't a complicated case. It only took the jury one hour to find him guilty after his trial.
3/7
The laws Trump potentially broke had NOTHING to do with the documents being classified.
He had thousands of docs owned by the National Archives (NARA), which NARA asked him to give back. He denied he had them, then returned some. NARA found out he had more, ...
1/4
... asked for them back, too. Trump denied he had them. FBI got a warrant, and seized them.
So, Trump stole documents, denied it, got them taken back. NOTHING TO DO WITH THEM BEING CLASSIFIED. He had no right to hold any of them. He stole them and lied (to federal agents).
2/4
Biden's people accidentally packed some government documents when his offices were closing in early 2017. They were moved to Biden's home and office. When discovered, they were turned back to NARA without anyone even asking for them.
This isn't a gotcha question, just an honest curiosity. I don't expect anyone to answer. I'll probably have to google it.
What do flat-earthers say happens if you fall of the edge of the world? Where do you go? Do you fall into Hell or something?
1/4
If you just fall forever and there's nothing under there, where does gravity come from? Why is there an up and a down?
Or if the sky is a physical bowl set onto the flat disk of the world and blocking its edge so you can't fall off, why has no one ever touched the wall?
2/4
I'm sure there are answers to these questions, and flat earthers have theories about that. I'm just curious, probably because I write fantasy and science fiction, and I'm thinking about writing a novel set in a flat earth. Gotta work out the physics of it.
3/4
We all know every word Republicans say is a lie. We all know most of what they say is just for trolling purposes.
I hope you all know by now not to argue with them, or to take their nonsense seriously.
Don't respond to them unless it's to mock them.
1/4
Republicans believe in nothing, and all their rhetoric is (at best) empty. They're anti-life, anti-America, anti-"liberty". They're pro-hate, pro-violence, and pro-fascist.
This doesn't mean they aren't a danger. They are. Take the danger seriously, not their words.
2/4
Republicans are not hypocrites. They're liars, and they're proud of their lies. Which is why pointing out facts, data, and their naked hypocrisy will never have any effect. They're =proud= of saying nothing that's true, and amused at your consternation.
