This sign was covered by a small billboard for many years, that's probably why it was still legible in 1986, as you can see on this photo: archief.amsterdam/beeldbank/deta…
Sometimes covered, sometimes uncovered, the ghost sign continued to fade over the next decades, until it had become completely illegible. In 2021, the advertisement was repainted, my photo is from November of that year.
