The first 3 paragraphs from the @CJR review of the press's extreme mishandling of Russiagate, by Jeff Gerth, Pulitzer winner for NYT, now retired.
In sum, the press was shocked Mueller found "no evidence" to support their core conspiracy theory, but did no self-examination:
"The damage to the credibility of the Times and its peers persists" -- as a result of its Russiagate failures (for which they were pathetically lavished with Pulitzers) and their refusal to engage in any self-examination. It's a long, nuanced review:
From @CJR: "Today, the US media has the lowest credibility - 26 % - among forty-six nations, according to a 2022 study by the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism."
Just devastating. No industry except the US media would see failures this grave and do no self-analysis.
I have some quibbles with this @CJR story but it's one of the best comprehensive accounts yet of the pervasive lying and deep corruption that drove the media's Russiagate hoax.
So amazing how many of these media outlets refuse to comment. Transparency for everyone except them.

One of the most mainstream-media-reporters in history (Jeff Gerth) just published a 4-part investigative series on the media's serial failures on Russiagate, in one of the US's most mainstream venues (@CJR), and the named culprits and outlets are all ignoring it.
Just think about the institutional arrogance and rot that leads these media corporations and their "journalists" to ignore all critics, to ignore all proof that they lied, to refuse to retract or explain.
And then they wonder why the public hates them. It's *deserved.*
The reason I never shut up about what they did with the NY Post's pre-election reporting is it's so vivid:
1) They all spread an outright CIA lie (laptop was "Russian disinformation").
Many conservative voters keep making clear they overwhelmingly reject Bush/Cheney/neocon foreign policy orthodoxies, regime change wars, and trying to "fix" other countries, yet somehow keep ending up with "thought leaders" who sound like Dick Cheney and Bill Kristol in 2005.
Recent history has one lesson: US "regime change" operations work out horribly for *everyone except* the US arms industry and US Security State. They're particularly horrific for those in those countries the CIA claims they're trying to "save." Yet many continue to urge it.
Also, I don't know what they do to people on those Israel trips but whatever it is, it's extremely effective. When you watch people come back from them transformed for life - like Ritchie Torres and Jordan Peterson - it's a marvel of psychology and propaganda. Credit where due.
This is a great thread on how utterly damning is the @CJR 4-part exposé on the media's systemic lying that drove the Russiagate hoax. Tonight's @SystemUpdate_, starting live in 5 minutes, is devoted to this. Few things reveal more about US corporate media
We now have 3 major lies revealed in the last 6 months that *most* corporate media spread: this Russiagate exposé, proof the Biden laptop wasn't "Russian disinformation," and the Hamilton68 fraud.
*Not one outlet* that spread these lies acknowledged them
One major change is that media corporations and corporate journalist just refuse to respond to or even acknowledge proof that they lied. Jeff Gerth expected they'd respond to him - he's been in mainstream media for decades, writing this for @CJR -- but look at what he found:👇
The changing political dynamics making this life-long leftist so popular among the German populist right are familiar: an outspoken opponent of German war in Ukraine, of COVID mandates, of mass immigration due to wages, and how the left is dominated by educated, wealthy classes.
This Guardian profile from December. 2022 is intended to be disparaging (can't have anyone transcending left/right ideological prisons: keeps the peasants divided and in line), but it gives a good glimpse of her unusual ascent. This dynamic is universal:
This is so well-deserved and good for the country.
CNN turned itself into a fanatical political PAC during the Trump era, got a few quick sugar highs, hired an army of US Security State operatives, and ratified one lie after the next with no retractions or accountability:
A major reason employees of media corporations basically declared war on me and a few others is we saw the frauds they were spreading in real-time and objected.
Taibbi just proved Hamilton68 was a hoax. They all used it. It was easy to see at the time:
