Remember this excellent thread on the #FreeSpeechBill? Back in the Lords again on 7th February 🧵
I've spend quite a long time in a quandary about our slide in the country on human rights, while certain media obsess about free speech. Probably an example

theguardian.com/politics/2023/…
Hint: That is not quashing of the free speech of people who want content removed from curricula

I wrote a bit more about that here buymeacoffee.com/TrialByTruth/w…
With a fair amount of this one also chucked into the summary
Featuring quite a lot of the stuff from @Heidi_Cuda @sianushka who followed how events played out in America with school rows bylinetimes.com/2022/01/13/ins…
@Heidi_Cuda @sianushka It's not like we have any reason to suspect that kind of stirring that is at expense of children and being able to keep the lights on
@Heidi_Cuda @sianushka No reason at all to suspect that kind of not quite straightforward support for better education in UK
Who is endorsing that kind of divisive messaging and fears turned into school conflicts?

The genuine concerns artificially exaggerated and it turns out to be very lucrative in the long run
Very very lucrative and it will never stop. Each step leads to a next one, a next thing that has to be kept away from our kids
What point did it reach in US? De Santis destruction testing the irony of talking small state (it is in terms of funding) while he micro-manages Florida curricula /END salon.com/2023/01/25/sor…
*spent
A fair few people now saying: I was a bit iffy about subjects, but I didn't want right wing thugs to be bused in to start a fight in the car park after my school board meeting. It is not THAT bad. But by then it was all a bit too late
Leading me to this considered and strongly held opinion. I will fight with the school over better provision for my children. That is scary, defunding public education
When no-one else is sticking their political beak in I will have some chats about parental Vs school rights. The draconian power given to DfE to interfere is shocking and quite Floridian.

Not so worried about stuff on civil rights, history, LGBTQ folk
Not a niche opinion here schoolsweek.co.uk/schools-bill-e…
Might forcing all schools into private academy hands make them a bit too susceptible to legal action that is not wholly good faith about the curricula? schoolsweek.co.uk/statistics-wat…
Apologies for the cynicism. It is not entirely unfounded. Please do support your schools to get adequate funding first of all. Not this ridiculous bad faith government

#TeacherStrike #RightToStrike
The minimum service level bill is also relevant here. What would stop the govt de facto banning strikes and if strikes proceed a move to sue unions. Do we all feel no more collective action is a good thing? Bit authoritarian?
Perhaps a tidge more important than this kind of nonsense that is being stirred up by supporters of privatisation and deregulation?
This Republican pollster seems to think so. He told government on 2nd Oct to rein their neck in

A bit of a Damascene conversion now impact of this wedge issue campaigning is clear in the US?
I had that blog post limited to access from supporters. I've switched it to free access now ICYI. It is all a bit too relevant to selectively limiting access to information buymeacoffee.com/TrialByTruth/w…
Last wee point. I set that to access only for supporters not because I wanted money or exposure, it was some real nervousness about a backlash, but if we fail to speak up or push back because of that it gets dicey pretty fast

Are we all psyched for Truss to do her Cummings tomorrow?

Reportedly a 3000 tome on why she was right. Maybe with a wee bit of help from all the US think tanks she visited since resigning
Do we suspect they were not the progressive policy kind of think tanks? I wonder if she had a chance to catch up with Boris
Seems a very selective visit like Mr Johnson. Just when most of the Republicans are panicking about Biden's record job figures politico.com/news/magazine/…

Being right holds no joy. Who will stop this roller coaster of heads (ours) being banked against walls
*Banged, not banked, but that is probably most pertinent right now
No self awareness, no contrition

"He enjoys the imbalance in power" is part of the dictionary definition of a bully
My six cents, from a post I wrote in 2016, exploring what I saw in America and the trajectory in UK ICYI buymeacoffee.com/TrialByTruth/b… ImageImage

Funny that. The thread below is suggesting it is a tad of a reverse ferret. Is Raab a good statesman?

We are in thrall to tribal politics and being told to trust promises that largely have not been delivered
If however, rushed regulatory divergence is argued to be the answer, we must ask more of the hard questions. Do farmers and the country gain from the standards race to the bottom?
Who would buy our products? What harm might they do? How do we make standards clear for future trade deals where in flux?

Just a few questions lined to the #REUL. Mirrored by @DavidHenigUK

Please do read this thread. Here with @bylinetimes context. Our country and too many vulnerable people are being hurt for more profit
Many are concurrently being disenfranchised with Voter ID
We need this to end and we need to support ways to do so
