@KatherineJWu ...great article!

My Mom had the same reaction as she has propane heat and a gas stove. Felt it was impossible.

But learned helplessness, while beautifully written, need not be the end of the story.

I ordered a double induction stove top and put it on
a nice piece of thin wood on her gas stove.

Showed her how to crack the windows to offset the propane heater (usually a 1 inch crack, with the inside/outside temperature differential at play is enough.).
Just the other day, I asked her if I could have the @AranetIoT 4 I bought for her as I had lost mine while doing the #NovIdRoadTrip (an ongoing thread where I walk the walk based on aerosol science, below).

She laughed and said no. She is still

using it, and, it turns out that she quite enjoys not feeling so incredibly sleepy during the winter.

Her story, and mine, is part of the Kuhnian Aerosol Revolution.

You had a temporary setback in your battle for clean lungs. I hope that story is not over.

Are you mad as hell at the CDC for their crappy masking advice? Now,you can do something about it.

Please politely email Dr. Patel your comments plp3@cdc.gov .

A good place to start is here:

How is it possible that the CDC recommends a "well-fitting mask."
Everyone knows
that means a cloth or surgical mask.

A surgical mask is not well fitting by definition. A cloth mask can be well fitting, but is deficient in filtration.

They do go on to recommend respirators - but only in a linked article, and 1,984 words 12,065 characters down into THAT
article, with only 606 words 3,560 characters left.

Or you have to wade through 76% of the article to get to the respirator "recommendation" which is not even a recommendation.

@jessbartoszko Hi Dr. Bartoszko- you were first author on this 2020 study, which was a meta-analysis of N95s vs. surgical masks.

The SARS Survivors from 2003 would disagree that serious disease or death is all you have to worry about.

But hey! It's Omicron!! ImageImage

"You do you" masking. The logical conclusion. Thread.

Got a peanut allergy? It's nice that the airlines will try to help you out, so that you....well, don't die.

Of course, a slightly cynical liberal immunocompromised person tired of the left's discriminatory attitude towards those with invisible disabilities, could make the observation that you could certainly carry an epi-pen.
Or the person who is allergic?

Could wear a mask. Because it's not the smell that's getting them, but the aerosolized peanuts.

And we know how to not breathe aerosols.

N95s or better.

Thread of Superspreading Superspreaders - not a really bad DC villain, but reality.

✅ SARS 1, SARS 2, and measles all have been shown to have 20% of the infected causing 80% of the transmissions.

✅ Those on day 8, have shown an increased production of exhaled aerosols from
those infected with SARS 2. (So much for ye olde CDC Day 6 Go Back To Work Policy so loved by @CarlosdelRio7 ).

✅ The farther the profession in the lungs? The more the aerosols.
And if you have SARS 2, you SIGNIFICANTLY produce more aerosols than control groups.

In fact, ZERO of the control group had high aerosol counts.

And of the infected? 15% produced 65% of the total aerosols.

Sounds like if you had a #CorsiRosenthalBox in a classroom, cleaning

Staffing issues. IT IS NOT COVID.

IT IS....staffing issues (that have absolutely nothing to do with all of the holiday parties where people were playing pin the tail on Covid.)

Late addition. Covid was thought to be no big deal by the Supreme Court when they denied Biden the ability to put mask mandates back in place.
