#Thread || Mr Carl Gustaf, The one man artillery of Indian army. [ 1/ 27]
Let me address few questions first

Q1 : what is carl Gustav ?

Q2 : RPG-7 against Carl Gustav RL.
1 : Carl Gustaf -Infantryman's Friday

Its a 84 mm recoilless, extremely Versatile, Anti - Everything weapon system. That can be used to level bunkers, infantry, vehicle, landing craft and more
2 : RPG V/s recoilless rifle -

Both have their own charm, RPG is lighter, portable, cheaper & simple
Weapon but it can't compete the Versatility of Mr. Carl

Carl has better range, accuracy, can fire variety of rounds depending on mission profile & extremely flexible.
Note :-

This is not a "How to use" guide nor it talks about explosive And working it's for Education purposes only.

let's start this detailed #Thread !

1/23
03 varients of carl Gustav are in production : MK-2, MK-3 & MK-4.
Carl Gustav MK-2 :-

Introduced in 1964, The M2 is Export/ Improved version of MK-1.
HEAT round & new sighting syst. Was introduced with this varient

Op Vijay | Op rakshak | Op pawan
Carl Gustav MK-3 :-

Improvement over M2 including a new lightweight carbon-fibre tube replacing the older model's steel, a new scope bracket design, New iron sights & an integral carry handle.

Op rakshak
India made their own version of bunker buster using these mean M3

This creation of DRDO (ARDE) Can be remotely triggered and have laser range finder & IR cameras. Usefull to eradicating bunkers on LOC
Carl Gustav MK-4 :-

Introduction in 2014, the lightest &
Shorter varient yet. Comes with a steel-free titanium-lined barrel and titanium venturi, it is stronger than the M3, although it weighs ~ 7kg , and is just 999mm long.
Will talk about the MK-4 in detail in this thread which is replacing M-3 from the service of SF
Components of Carl Gustav MK 4.

I'm dividing the CGM4 in 5 different components :-

> Weight & Length
> Adjustable / flexibility
> Safety
> Ditigal devices
> Sighting system
1. Weight & length of CGM4 :-

The adoption of a titanium layer for the barrel allowed a 1.1 kg saving, the new carbon fibre casing and redesigned Venturi further reduce the wt.
Venturi is completely redesigned, the new titanium made Venturi is shorter than previous one Which bringing the M4 under the 1 meters
2. Adjustability :-

Both the shoulder pad and front hand grip are fitted to a Picatinny rail, and can therefore be moved back and forward to adapt the weapon to the soldier’s size.
3 › New safety systems :-

The CGM4 have two safety systems
A additional safety is added to the loading rod. This allow the weapon to be carried loaded with the ammunition
In earlier version you have to load the weapon just before the firing.

This capability of CGM4 helps the soldiers to reduce reaction time
4 › Round counter :-

shot counter is installed on the right side, at the back of the tube; It count the number of rounds fired to manage the 1000 round barrel life.
5. Sighting system of CGM4 :-

Mr.Carl utilizes two sighting syst. One as main sight & other is backup

» The back-up sigh can be your old school iron sights , red dot or non

» Main sight can be your standard clip-on telescopic sight, Thermal, inteligent sight or non
Until now the Saab 557B comes as a stad Sights in all Gustav varients.

It's a x3 magnification and a 12° Field of View sight fitted to a V-slide assembly mounted on the front-left of the weapon.
The user have to manually adjust the sight acc. To his needs, it's 250 mm long and weighs 0.9 kg. Not compatible with night vision devices
Iron sight is used as back-up sight in M2 & M3. It's now replaced with the red dot In CGM4.

This is the sight setup of our M4 🇮🇳
A infographic I made on meopta M rad 3 FL sight. Army also uses BEL passive NVD on carl for night ops
Smart sight or fire control system (FCS) :

FCS is a integration of laser rangefinder, ballistics calculator &
Lense in a single unit which helps to improves precision and kill prob. of the system. M4 is the only varient that can fire programmable ammo.
India should consider buying such syst. US Special Operations cmd. (USSOCOM) is already buying FCD 558 for their SF.

These FCS enabling the M4 gunner to communicate with programmable 84 mm smart munitions via the sight to precisely deliver the desired effects to target.
Future : Guided Carl Gusta Mination
(GCGM)

Other than smart Programmable munitions, the Saab and ryon is developing a guided missile for M4

Basically making it a shoulder fire missile launcher
We've reached the end of thread

Mapping the recent terrorist attack highlights an old route of infiltration Used by foreign terrorists (pak /afgani) during the peak days of terrorism. (1/18) Image
From the late 1900s to early 2010s, many sympathisers of terrorists were active in these areas.

These areas were considered as no go zone for the armed forces .Only foreign terrorists used to operate here.
The location where the ambush happened has some rough patch where vehicles move at almost at negligible speed. Also the area has some Vantage points on top of the hill. Image

Terrorists were able to pull textbook execution of an L-shape ambush.

It’s a type of ambush
which is best utilized along linear lines of movement such as roads and trails. Image
