This is what a top quality depot level tank overhaul facility looks like.

Note the housekeeping - cleanliness - and organization of tools, jigs, assemblies and part bins.

There is a chain drive in the floor to hook vehicles into & pull them forward.

1/
The tank hulls look to have been sandblasted to bear metal, primed & painted better than 'like new,' at a guess.

The cables & wire harness in the video is new and the engine has the cleanliness of being fresh out of overhaul/rebuild.

2/
US Army Tank-Automotive Command (TACOM) would call that a "zero mile rebuild" of the drivetrain and electricals.

We are not seeing the most important parts for a modern tank.

The electronics for the fire controls, gun sights, and digital radio command & control gear.

3/
The Czech Republic is doing Ukraine a very good deed here.

Since there is so much sensationalism & little sense around the "Chinese Spy Balloon."

I'll address WW2 historical WW2 "Balloon Warfare" by Britain & Japan for context.

Then I'll address whether such a balloon can be safely downed without hitting US citizens

Balloon War🧵
1/
There were two major strategic balloon bombing campaigns in World War 2.

The first was Britain's "Operation Outward."

This was an attack on German occupied Europe's power grid using barrage balloons dangling cables to ground out powerlines.

2/
The 2nd strategic balloon bombing campaign was the Japanese Fusen Bakudan, or “Fu-Go” balloon bombs during November 1944 – April 1945.

I did a blog post about it 21 Feb 2014 using this National Geographic map⬇️

@chrisschmitz The Ukrainians have been putting MANPADS teams with cell-tablet missile track software on the tops of apartment buildings in Kyiv & Kharkiv as final point defenses.

A timer on the missile to pop the flares as they get close to an urban target would be effective against those.
1/
@chrisschmitz Such a system's effectiveness against mobile air defenses would depend on how accurate Russian intelligence was for the mission planning of the strike.

That Ukrainian article implies "Not Very."

Visual band CCD cameras are getting both small and very cheap. Missile warning
2/
@chrisschmitz ...defensive suites based on them for cruise missiles is only a matter of time.

The Association of Old Crows just has a webinar on the subject of missile defensive countermeasures by Eugene Fleeman here:

Pro comment:

M26 solid rocket motors create a lot of nasty pollutants when ignited.

The EPA has put very specific & low limits on DoD for disposing of them by burning.

Upshot -
There are a lot of M26 rocket motors in storage awaiting disposal which can be used to heave

...small diameter guided bombs.

"Available Stocks" may simply refer to the M26 rockets & guided bomb components for the GLSDB sitting at contractor facilities.

Boeing & Saab building & selling GLSDB takes old M26 rockets off the DoD demilitarization

...backlog.

There may be up to a dozen hand built GLSDB prototypes immediately available, likely less, but the software & hardware needed to adapt a HIMARS or M270 launcher to fire GLSDB isn't 'commercial off the shelf."

Vehicles like the M88A2 Hercules ARV are an operational level asset in that they keep tank & IFV formations stocked with recovered & repaired vehicles that fight time and again.

They are a 'saving throw' against vehicle attrition that keeps an armored force in the field.⬇️

1/
The US Army's failure to bring enough tank recovery vehicles to the April-June 1945 Battle of Okinawa crippled it's tank fleet through unnecessary & avoidable attritional losses to Japanese soldiers with satchel charges.

2/
This 1945 'destroy abandoned enemy vehicles' game is being played today in Ukraine with grenade dropping drones, rather than suicidal tank killing Japanese infantry squads, like was done at Okinawa.

Robots simply make better kamikazes.😱

On Monday January 30, 2023 the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence announced a tabulated list of 126,650 Russian battle casualty deaths.

Those death numbers may only represent 80% of Russian military deaths to date.

Casualty 🧵

I've been pounding on the poor Western intelligence casualty counting in the Russo-Ukrainian War to date.

Military casualties are professionally racked and stacked as "Battle" and "Non-Battle" casualties.

This is the 1973 Vietnam USMC definition of non-battle casualties:

2/n
"Examples of injuries not to be interpreted as battle casualties are: frostbite, battle fatigue, sunstroke, heat exhaustion and diseases not verified as cases of biological warfare"

At link below is a document of the various 1973 casualty definitions.
