Good afternoon from western WA state. My name is Joy Gjersvold and I'm the chapter chair of M4L Kitsap County.
Parents catch a lot of flack for standing up for their children, the rights of their children, and for their own parental rights. I can speak firsthand of why M4L 1/8
Is such a vital grassroots organization for parents. The war waged against our children is quite personal. We nearly lost our daughter to SEL & restorative justice policies in our home school district. Our daughter was driven to the point of suicide. She had a plan in writing.2/8
She was 12. Her counselor didn't report her intentions as a Mandatory Reportable. She told our daughter to empathize and understand why her bully might be driven to bullying. Our repeated HIB reports and all documentation of meetings with the school magically disappeared. 3/8
Teachers and administrators told our daughter that maybe now she knew what not to do to be bullied. They told my husband and I they couldn't tell us what was wrong, just "talk to your daughter." Day after day, physical and emotional assault on our daughter. No one helped. 4/8
They all thought: our daughter is white, from a good family, she had no issues. Her bullies were NEVER held to account. No punishment was ever handed down by the school or district and the mother of the bully began to harass our daughter on social medial. 5/8
She told our daughter that the bullying wasn't this boy's fault. He had a rough life. He was the victim, not our daughter. Our story is one of thousands from all over the country. We saved our daughter together as a family. She saved herself in many ways. The schools failed. 6/8
Public education is broken, run by bully teachers unions, and allowed to manipulate and injure children at the hands of the US Dept of Ed and federal government policy. 7/8
They are OUR children.
We are THEIR family.
We are THEIR parents.
Public schools have one job: academics.
Our daughter graduated and she's following her dreams of being a licensed Vet Technician. She is thriving but struggles with depression, anxiety, and PTSD that stems from the bullying. Public school failed our daughter. 8/8 #ExpelSEL#whyIfight#WarMom#JoyfulWarrior
