OK, the results are in & most of you believe that in the face of likely danger the Precautionary Principle says we should #DoSomething.

SARS2 is an example.
However, there are ppl who feel the Precautionary Principle means that until an intervention is proven safe, we should #DoNothing.

SARS2 is an example.
Bizarrely, both definitions can be found in medicine even though they represent opposite philosophies & proponents of each believe, often fervently, that their definition is correct.
If, like me, you believe the Precautionary Principle means #DoSomething, you're not alone.

That was also the conclusion & warning to future generations from the 🇨🇦 SARS Commission report.

If, like me, you believe the Precautionary Principle means #DoSomething, you may suffer from "Sentinel Intelligence", a "special cognitive capacity that allows someone to detect threats before anyone else", both a "superpower" & a "curse".

jessicawildfire.substack.com/p/youre-not-a-…
I guess the real question is would you rather have leaders known for Sentinel Intelligence, who innately & diligently look for danger in order to protect the public, & if so, should that be a minimum requirement to hold a public health office?

A little more 'Engineered Infection Prevention' (EIP) for anyone who may be interested.

This time water.
Did you know that with a bit of electricity & a catalyst you could split water molecules into OH-, H2O2, O- & O3 (ozone), collectively referred to as ROS, Reactive Oxygen Species?
Did you know ROS was a powerful disinfectant?

(And did you know ROS is also produced in your cells?)

"The most significant risk factor for SARS-CoV-2 infection was room sharing with an infectious patient, which was the only factor that remained statistically significant following multivariate analysis (odds ratio [OR], 9.2"

So if they risk of HAI-Covid is 9X greater when sharing a room, wouldn't it make sense to offer N95s to the patients?
In fact, if some 25% of Covid cases can be traced back to healthcare wouldn't it make sense to provide N95s to all patients?

Infection control is out of control.

In some cases, up to 40% of Covid cases in hospitals now are HAIs.
Some IDs who bet wrong on the use of respirators for SARS1 have doubled down for 20 years and are now empowered in key leadership positions of influence.

Whether its CYA, legacy preservation, sunk cost fallacy or just physical discomfort with respirators, they have dug in.
Legally, Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) trumps Public Health (PH).

IRL, PH has co-opted OHS's jurisdiction.

This might blow your mind.
Handwashing is an aerosol generating event.
So is toilet flushing.

I'm glad to see this issue raised in the House of Commons.

I'm sad that it needs to be.
😢

With PHAC's $11.2B surplus, it's hard to fathom why govt is still not honouring their commitment to buy from 🇨🇦 PPE mfrs.

@CAPPEM2⁩ ⁦@NovoTextilesinstagram.com/reel/CoVxlXogf…
It started with a promise to the public to build COVID-fighting capacity here in Canada and a challenge to 🇨🇦 industry to make it happen.
It included the promise of "longer-term support", including "flexible procurement" from 🇨🇦 mfrs to "support innovation & build domestic manufacturing capacity."

There was the promise of "direct supports" (grants) for companies with late stage R & D "in the intermediate term."

Sigh.

David Sackett warned us about the dangers of deferring to "experts" long past their prime in the field of medicine, esp wrt to the co-opting of EBM.

His solution was mandatory retirement. A kinder, gentler version of Max Planck's "science advances one funeral at a time"
Sackett wrote a thoughtful piece about "the sins of expertness" that included examples of his own self-awareness & self-correction to preserve the progress of science.

Never has Sackett's warning appeared more sage & more relevant than during the mismanagement of the global SARS2 airborne pandemic.
