This is based on a new measure we developed to identify people who believe in Christian nationalism by assessing their agreement with these five statements and sorting them into one of the four groups above:
We find that Christian nationalist beliefs are overwhelming among two key groups: white evangelical Protestants, and Republicans:
Separate from the attitudes used to create the scale, we see a massive preference for the US as a Christian nation among CN adherents:
White CN adherents in particular have some pretty radical views on systemic racism and racial justice:
CN adherents are almost SEVEN TIMES more likely than rejecters to say Americans may need to resort to violence to save their vision of the country:
