In Tuesday’s #SOTU, Pres Biden highlighted the importance of family caregivers, saying:

“Let’s get seniors who want to stay in their homes the care they need to do so. And give a little more breathing room to millions of family caregivers looking after their loved ones.”
48 million Americans help take care of spouses, parents and other adult loved ones.

On average, they spend 24 hours/week on care activities – the equivalent of an unpaid part-time job - while also shelling out an avg of $7,000/year on care expenses.
Caregiving is a labor of love, to be sure. It also can be a tremendous challenge . . . physically, emotionally, and financially.
That’s why AARP fights for policies to make the big responsibilities of caregiving a little bit easier.

In 2022, 44 states approved 176 measures that AARP championed.

This year, our state advocacy continues and we’re calling for action on the National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers such as access to respite care, paid leave, tax credits and reimbursement programs.

Happy to join @FORBES @mcgrathmag today for an important conversation about working family caregivers.
COVID has shined a light on family caregivers and really put it into focus. 48 million Americans help care for aging parents and other adult loved ones, and 60% of them work.

Employers are noticing that their employees have a second job
They can help workers with care responsibilities by:

- creating a supportive workplace culture
- offering information and resources like employee support groups
- having caregiver-friendly policies and benefits like flexible hours and paid leave
