Generative AI is valuable through the creative rendition of both text and imagery. It's good at generating fiction. Demanding that it conjures up facts is a fool's errand. Yet people seem unable to grok this!
Perhaps it's because people fail to recognize that deep learning AI is intuition machines, not the logical machines we are familiar with. Intuition machines do not output results with the precision and accuracy of computers. They're a different kind of "intelligence."
I pointed this out half a decade ago in my book "Artificial Intuition." But perhaps people are coming around to recognizing this! amazon.com/Artificial-Int…
Yesterday's Google stock tumble was clearly driven by a knee-jerk reaction of people who had never actually used ChatGPT. Market movements seem to be grounded in shallow interpretations of reality. What becomes viral is what is common and thus shallow.
We often overthink our investments. To win in the markets, you have to recognize where the dumb money will flow towards. What drives dumb money? Surface information that appeals to easy-to-understand narratives. The narratives may be entirely wrong, but that doesn't matter!
I tend to do well investing in biotech. That's because I'm relatively ignorant of the space. A side-effect is that I'm not attached to any one idea or company. I'll sell because I have zero conviction. The markets are predominantly full of people who don't understand it.
Research diffusion model space is so fascinating because you have all kinds of experiments that lead to some kind of progress, but it's always some small piece in a much larger puzzle. The toolbox keeps growing, but its crystal clear as to what it is really for!
These projects explore the fuzzy realm between symbols and imagery. Between algebra and geometry. My hunch is that discoveries in this space will have a greater impact than in the pure language model space.
All human thought is geometric (or, in semiotic terms, iconic). Of course, computers don't "think" geometrically, but we do. We are a general intelligence because our cognition is forged by a reality of space and motion. Measures and their derivative with respect to time.
The damn rationale for liking posts with similar content makes it to your feed! This has been known forever as collaborative filtering. For the life of me, I can't understand why Twitter engineering can't implement this!!!!
The damn reason for following users is that their posts are given priority in one's own feed! Using lists and notifications is the clunky way we had when we followed blogs using RSS feeds!
The reason a person writes a Tweet is so that other users (specifically one's followers) and people interested in a specific topic can see it. It makes zero sense if none of it is delivered to people's feeds.
