Grounds for denying someone who *has* ID from voting this May include: polling staff deeming "the photograph was not a good likeness," believing the ID to be a forgery, and saying "the elector failed to answer the prescribed questions satisfactorily" What could possibly go wrong?
There will be a new member of staff in *every* polling station whose role is specifically to check people's ID. At enormous cost to all of us. Imagine if we'd spent those millions on boosting voter registration or turnout?
Just some of the steps polling station staff will have to take before handing ANY voter their ballot paper in England this May. I thought the government liked 'cutting red tape'? #voterID
It worries me that "it appears to be forged" could be used against any voter by any polling clerk, no matter how valid the voter ID actually is
Well this isn't going to be farcical at all: "The Presiding Officer may have contact details for female members of staff...who will be authorised to check photographic ID, and who will be on call to attend polling stations at short notice" when a female staffer is requested
"If the elector is required to remove a face covering to carry out the check in private, you should offer them the use of a mirror to check that their face covering is in place before leaving the private area" - this is where the millions in spend on mirrors for voter ID comes in
I do not envy Presiding Officers at this May's local elections in England
Official guidance: "Even if an elector has an accepted form of photographic ID, the Presiding Officer can and should still use the prescribed questions…if they have any doubts relating to the entry on the register of electors...[their] decision is final"
If your electoral roll name varies substantially from your ID, don't worry - you can come back with your birth certificate
OK, this seems to invalidate the supposed security of mandatory ID entirely? Electors can apply for a proxy "up to 5pm on polling day when their ID is lost, stolen, destroyed or damaged" or "where they have sent away or applied for ID that has not been received in time"
It's likely we won't get a full picture of how many people are turned away for a lack of photo ID this May - there will be ID posters on the approach to the polling station, and tellers can remind people before they go in. Many could just turn around and go home
There is no ability to appeal against Presiding Officers' decision to refuse to issue you with a ballot paper on grounds relating to voter ID

I know I've tweeted a lot about the TSSA union's troubles, but it's important. Not just because it's a Labour affiliate, but also because it plays a key role in the transport dispute, and is the biggest union in TfL. And there may be more sexism scandals in the movement to come
It's not currently clear who is running the union. Five members of senior management - THE key players - including interim General Secretary Frank Ward are suspended. The (non-staff) Exec Committee did not come out of the Helena Kennedy KC report well and is in chaos too
Membership has absolutely plummeted in the TSSA for 20-odd years. Pre-2010 it was around 33,000. It dropped to roughly 18,000 seven years ago, and has dropped further since. It is not thought to be financially viable below that point 18k mark

.@PatsyeStevenson and @ManduReid have spoken to Byline Times about their exchanges with TalkTV representatives - for a show they suggest was determined to whip up misogynistic views
A TalkTV representative said the debate would be about “Has #MeToo Gone Too Far?” - on the day that David Carrick was sentenced as a serial rapist, andit emerged the Epsom College family deaths were a murder suicide by the headteacher's husband

NEW: Employers are testing the Government’s new law allowing agency workers to be brought in to break strikes
A string of reports of strike-breaking have now emerged since then Business Secretary Grant Shapps changed the long-standing ban on the use of agency staff to cover striking workers last July
Some employers have jumped at the chance to make use of the legal change. Fire chiefs in Hertfordshire, for instance, were accused of offering agency firefighters £1,000 per shift to break strikes as part of a ‘resilience fire cover’ scheme just last week

EXCL: Baroness Helena Kennedy KC is presenting a report to the TSSA's executive committee today on her inquiry into sexism in the union. She will recommend "sweeping change" to make the union a "supportive and healthy" workplace
Last year @ReelNewsLondon put out a video detailing serious allegations against senior officers in the TSSA by a former organiser. The TSSA sought a court injunction to get the video taken down. It was refused - and TSSA then launched an independent sexism inquiry
The full report could be published *today* I'm told - the executive meeting is today (not tomorrow as in first tweet)

NEW: The Charity Commission is examining a “serious incident” at a controversial think tank that claims it is “deeply concerned” about the impact of climate change policies – following a complaint about it engaging in political campaigning, Byline Times can reveal
The Global Warming Policy Foundation was founded by former Conservative Chancellor Lord Nigel Lawson, its president and chair of trustees, to combat what it calls “extremely damaging and harmful policies” designed to mitigate climate change. It states that it is a charitable org
Charity Commission guidance on think tanks states that charities can “promote uncontroversial views and perspectives” but should not disseminate or commission research that is “not balanced”
