What sets Avalanche apart from other appchain networks?
Ava Labs Head of Engineering @_patrickogrady sat down with @Cryptocito to break down why Avalanche is the network of choice to launch customized, interoperable blockchains.
Let's recap a few key points from the show /🧵
Following his video explaining the differences and similarities between Cosmos and Avalanche, @Cryptocito invited @_patrickogrady on to discuss!
So what are the key differentiating factors of Avalanche?
At the heart of what makes #Avalanche unique is the breakthrough consensus mechanism, creating major advantages in speed, finality and scalability.
It goes beyond just one single chain, Avalanche is a network of networks.
Avalanche consensus is an innovative approach using repeated subsampling to achieve fast finality and low network complexity.
Meeting the future demand for block space, this allows for a highly scalable set of validator participants, while retaining near-instant finality.
Speed 🏎
Finality on the C-Chain, with 1200+ validators, averages around 1 second. Finality on most subnets is in the milliseconds.
With Avalanche consensus, the number of validators can massively scale while retaining this fast tx speed.
Scalability 📶
Subnets are customized to the needs of the protocol, while leveraging Avalanche consensus to maintain massive throughput and fast finality.
This can apply to anyone building a Web3 game, DeFi dApp, institutional subnet or enterprise use case!
How does the subnet design benefit an app like @DeFiKingdoms?
The DFK Chain itself processes more gas per day than almost any other blockchain ecosystem, while retaining the high transaction throughput needed for their application.
Subnets also enable builders to completely own their blockchain ecosystem, backed by the power of Avalanche Consensus, and connected by Avalanche Warp Messaging.
How is Avalanche Warp Messaging different from IBC?
AWM creates highly efficient and fast cross subnet communication using BLS signatures.
AWM makes it easy for contracts to send messages across subnets, while introducing the flexibility for any virtual machine to interact.
The Avalanche and Cosmos communities share similar principles, to build technologies that work, and that the most amount of people can use, while being open to new ways to design these systems.
That openness is what is going to carry the industry forward in a multi-chain world.
Now the focus for 2023 is to increase the efficiency and interoperability between subnets, and to continue to build a network of custom blockchains for any use case.

"Providing the best experience for onboarding Web2 players to Web3 gaming is our first mission," Anh Le, Co-Founder of @DOS_Labs.
They're enabling their alliance of game devs to build in Web3 with SDKs for Unity, Unreal Engine, and integrations with @coreapp & @AvascanExplorer.
DOS Labs, a gaming studio with over 400k daily active players, also formed the Vietnam Game Developer Association, a group of gaming studios already started building the next generation of Web3 games.
One small step for finance, one giant leap for DeFi 👊
.@dexalotcom just launched its Subnet, bringing sub-second trading execution that makes Dexalot’s experience feel like centralized exchanges, but on-chain.
Traders can take part in $1M+ in incentives by trading on Dexalot!
Traders can experience the @dexalotcom difference of:
🔺 Fast transaction finality
🔺 Intuitive UI/UX
🔺 Minimal Slippage
🔺 Assets kept in your possession at all times medium.com/avalancheavax/…
Dexalot is a decentralized exchange (DEX) that relies on a central limit order book (CLOB) to execute trades. Buy orders are matched with corresponding sell orders when the prices match.
All the while traders retain full custody of assets🔒
.@IntainFT, a structured finance platform that facilitates administration of $5.5B in assets, is launching IntainMARKETS, an on-chain marketplace for tokenized asset-backed securities.
Intain empowers participants in the multi-trillion dollar structured finance market to issue & trade asset-backed securities on-chain.
IntainMARKETS enables issuers & investors to benefit from more efficient, cost effective and transparent end-to-end asset issuance, investment and deal administration. medium.com/avalancheavax/…
Subnets allow enterprises to fully customize their network, and build in compliance layers, such as KYC checks. This allows regulated financial institutions to benefit from public, permissionless blockchains, while still navigating regulatory considerations.
2️⃣ Benefits of a Broader Network
Building on an Avalanche Subnet gives enterprises the foundation for a high level of decentralization, while inheriting all the infrastructure and tooling that comes from a highly interoperable Avalanche ecosystem.
