Coffey was always averse to assessing impact in DWP too
This is the devastation she has decided does not need more scrutiny. A flagship freeport
We definitely need ministers to have these powers to make their own mind up about regulations and laws with a lot less scrutiny
Calls to scrap the #ECHR are also related. If Human rights are breached by government policy and domestic laws are weaker, it is route of last resort for impacts
It is backstop for worker rights and harms that result from more rampant careless profiteering
Here in context of prepayment meter installs. This is not for our sovereignty it is minimising liability
Avoiding scrutiny and brewing up civil unrest is not governing
Illiberal rhetoric emboldening and mainstreaming fringes
The hotel fees a direct result of government operational failures with huge processing backlogs
You excuse incompetence and non-delivery, then conceal the impact and leverage media to back you up to demonise others, this is the upshot across sectors

Truth and transparency are vital
The aversion to scrutiny and the fights against accountability all started with Brexit then escalated
The video of violent protests were not in Liverpool, it was in Knowsley a way outside the city
The good people of Liverpool know how this happens. They stopped the Sun distributing there after Hilsborough reports
Perhaps we should learn the same lessons about the press and their government donors?

Media independence is another vital thing h/t @bylinetimes bylinetimes.com/2022/05/11/bun…
But don't take my word for it. Ex-Editor of the Sun here with thoughts
Damascene conversion or the truth so obvious it is undeniable by anyone who is remotely rational?
Poison the discourse to serve government aims and what you end up with is might being right and the normalisation of violence while people die
The government were warned against it, by a US pollster who watched his country torn apart

Either the government can't or won't learn due to rebels and a shrinking right wing voter base
These are current contortions on events in Knowsley. This is what we are reduced to. It is not about sides now, it is about the effective governance of the UK
Sometimes it's utterly ridiculous
Other times it is evidence of a deeply concerning slide on our rights and selective policing of symptoms of the same issues
To make you own mind up about events last night. The situational context matters. As do root causes hopenothate.org.uk/2023/02/11/wha…
I put all this together because it is all related. It is clearing decks of rights and protections and lies to build support to do so,

With fears, threats, concealed impacts, inaccurate statistics and discrediting of oversight
This is about scared people and those who exploit that fear. Is the basis for fear proportionate, accurate, and being tackled by our current government in any way that is not worsening it all?
Thread continues here if you didn't hit 'show replies' I know it is too long, but so is the term of this chaotic damaging government
Like Johnson pointed out to PM Brown when he compared him to Gaddafi all those years ago
Absolutely superb interview on @bylinetimes podcast with the Mersey Mayor here. If you want to hear some sense on Levelling Up as fiction and paths to better shows.acast.com/byline-times-p…
One very last one (I promise)

This, in case you didn't guess, is deeply concerned sarcasm /END

In context of this thread. There is now an incident outside the Tate Modern with group Patriot Alternative implicated. This time about drag performers. This is all a US and broader RW import
Do check back on events in the US. Reportedly more 'protests' are planned. We don't want this Image
The coincidence of the Prevent report downplaying right-wing extremism is harder to ignore now

View of the UK from the outside in from a country that ousted a very similar government recently
NSFW retrospective on that Australian government as we all need a chuckle and perhaps a bit of parallel perspective here
They actually did one for us too. Could we consider it foreign aid?

It's all relative isn't it. Bouncing back from a 'moron premium' on a wave of US buoyancy and gas price hitting pre-war levels now
What in the outlook promises it will improve the lot of the majority in the country?
What in the investment picture and local productivity will be helped by public spending cuts and the continuation of austerity for the majority?

Was there anything on status of historical indicators on causes of crime in there and capacity and throughput for courts here?
You can click heels together 3 times and say lock them up (or if Anderson - put them down), but is there means to police and see rapid justice. Plus what should be aim of any humane society: reduce crime via causes of same
Did the legal and court system get what they needed from this government to do a good job? Image
