Folks’ve been asking for more specific #wv child marriage stats, & we had a dashboard update, so here goes!

Over 700 WV children married 2012-2021.
Only 3 of 55 counties reported 0 child marriages.
16 counties: more than 1 in every 100 marriages involves child

Here are the 16 #wv counties where more than 1 in every 100 total marriages 2012-2021 involved a child:

Mingo
Lincoln
Wyoming
Fayette
Ritchie
Logan
Mason

Mercer
Tyler

364 kids married in those 16 counties alone.

The counties with 0 reported child marriages 2012-2021 are:

Gilmer
Hancock
Tucker

WV DHHR strenuously emphasized that marriage statistics are woefully underreported, including at least one county that only reported 4 total marriages in a whole year. That seems like a problem, no? How do we solve?
