"We can't read or understand Chinese, we don't know any of the people who do this in real life and have no idea of the context- how dare you not accept our made-up interpretation of this video as equally valid as a local one".
Literally offended that someone well-connected to all this took the time to explain what was going on.
"What are you? Simultaneously some kind of Chinese technology AND content production "expert" huh? Look, I'll have you know I am a very, very white guy".
If you'd care to look at the thread many of the "non-local points of view" presented were "women are lazy whores going through life on easy mode and these are stupid whores because it's so easy to spoof locations". Excuuuuuuuse me for wanting to add a little nuance to that take.
Really good counterpoints offered you may have missed (that I agreed with)-
If apps over-incentivize location this way it quickly becomes environmentally harmful- or at least wasteful, and ablest. Not everyone can get around easily. It could also distort the housing market.
The use of these apps with simply bizarre levels of filtration/morphing enforces colorism and related issues. It's gotten to the point where even the most beautiful Chinese women cannot meet current standards without extensive post-processing to the point of cartoonishness.

Kind of a typical "I'm Italian so that means I can make Italian food good enough for Chinese" expat-owned place. That was fine 10 years ago but doesn't really cut it anymore.
In SZ you get top professional Chinese chefs trained by top professional foreign chefs so you can actually get very good Italian food here. This was acceptable, but not great, they weren't overly friendly and the air quality made me finish my meal as fast as I could and get out😳
Checking out a new mall- with a cute "Momo Planet" sign. Their food court had the whole glamping theme that's so popular now with plenty of tents and chairs for the public to hang out and eat.
(No you can't see anything I always blur it, perverts🙄)
Today's Taste of Cyberpunk:
Hard times for e-thots🥺
J/K What's going on is they are gaming the location feature. Streaming platforms allow users to search locally- wealthier neighborhoods mean much higher donations because of the perceived availability of the streamer. Also we just like groups and company- and they co-lab😁
Can't beat our hustle💪🏻 If some girl just thinks she can stay home and make money, another girl will take the the streets to get an advantage😁 Also you need to be clever and have some talent- singing, painting. Pretty is easy. I guess I have to bring my portable 3D printer😅
Waitress: The restaurant had a "kiss 10 seconds and get free food" pre-Valentine special
Kaidi: Just kiss?🤔
Naomi: What, you're going to have a go at me on the table for extra hotpot?😂
Kaidi: The whole city has seen everything you got already babe, free food😉
Naomi:😳🤔🤷🏻♀️
"Just kiss?" What the hell, girl pimp😂
Who asks "Just kiss?" and starts negotiating? Going to set up some softboxes for them babe?🤣
I'm going to take a break from talking about the COVID situation here. It's just going to get me harassed by people who aren't Chinese nationals living in China but who have been tasked with defending or condemning everything that happens here under all circumstances.
There's no commensurate support from people who understand the risks of my being honest when it does not align with one side or the other's pro/anti-China narrative. It's not like I get called a CCP/CIA opp any less for my efforts so why become a shared target?
Most of you will establish "truth" as whatever a Westerner with their limited perspective says, and then are only interested in a Chinese validating the "truth" you've already decided on. There's just no percentage in my indulging that, stay ignorant it does not affect me at all.
Brunch today, although it was kind of Shenzhen brunch which means lunch starting at 11am with almost no recognizable breakfast foods other than eggs😞 Pretty safe though, table outside etc.
BISTRO LENBACH 兰巴赫 (深圳南山店)
科技南路9号威新软件科技园3号楼1层
Eggs and croissant, frogs legs, burrata- all quite good, but I would have liked a bagel or pancakes or something. Not many places do a good American breakfast here and once in a while, I get a craving.
Had my kit with me, hard to see the Far-UVC. Outside is safer, but still...
I'm a Mainland Chinese citizen, high profile, and at risk. @Vice broke a written agreement not to discuss my relationships or personal life- they never do with men in tech they interview. In the end, the speculation in their article directly resulted in my being Outed.
In the weeks prior to the release of the article I knew would turn my world upside down dozens of journalists were told of the situation- journalists in China with full knowledge of exactly what @Vice was doing would result in. All were too careerist to speak up- and still are.
