1/ A leaked document shows that Russia is planning to hold nationwide patriotic events for children and young people to mark the one-year anniversary of the start of the war in Ukraine, and to encourage them to support the war effort materially as well as morally. ⬇️

2/ RBC and TV Rain have published details of a leaked directive from Russia's Federal Ministry of Youth Affairs (Rosmolodezh) concerning how young people should commmorate the upcoming Defender of the Fatherland Day on 23 February. TV Rain reports:

3/ "One of the main events should become a mass action "Heroes of our time", during which participants are invited to form a hero's star and shoot a video.

4/ As part of the campaign, the regions are also being asked to make their own video clips to be used in All-Russian congratulations on the warriors' monuments.

5/ The clips should state a fact about the hero – for example, in the Moscow region, at the monument to Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya "To be brave like Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya" and in Chechnya, "To be indestructible like the soldiers of the 'Zapad-Akhmat' battalion."

6/ The document also lists other actions, which are a mixture of war propaganda and practical initiatives to help the troops at the front line. They include:

🔺 "Knitted with Love" knitting workshops to make socks and mittens for front-line soldiers.

7/ 🔺 Masterclasses on making trench candles for soldiers to use for heating and cooking.

🔺 "Heroes are near" lessons for schoolchildren, where they should be introduced to the heroes of the 'special military operation' and told about their deeds.

8/ 🔺 Video greetings for social media with the hashtags #МЫВМЕСТЕ ("We Are Together" and #НашимГероям ("OurHeroes").

9/ Apparently addressing women, the directive states that "the beautiful half of humanity is invited through video greetings to thank their defenders for their work and protection (as part of this mass action, you can congratulate your male colleagues for their joint work)".

10/ Additionally, wounded soldiers being treated in hospital will be given concerts and gifts, the public will be invited to meet veterans and 'heroes', an action to write "letters of victory" will be carried out, memorials will be cleaned up and flowers will be laid. /end
