—#ScorpioFlow, M.anifest
Shea butter smooth skin, gap tooth
24 karat smile ohhhhh
I go love you die, i'm a die hard fan
Before the day is done let's go meet the fam
Confessed my love for you to the ancients
You're my oracle when i'm chased by agents
—Be My Woman, M.anifest

—BEAR, M.anifest

Hubris is "an exaggerated sense of self-importance". In Ghana we call it "too known". But you need a bit of hubris to survive in a world that's always talking down on your aspirations, a world that measures your visions by their weaknesses & inacapcities.
To succeed in such a world, you need a bit of hubris or ego. But ego isn't enough.
It is this idea that ushers us into the song with the chorus.
Hubris is on the 2009 The Birds & the Beats album.
——
"What you gon do when you grow up (abrabɔ)
Is ego enough to take you over
What you gon do what you gon do what you gon do
Is ego enough to take you over"
——
We Ate Hearts And Drank Beers
———
The song is about struggle, growth, reminiscence, & return. It's a retrospective take of the musician's life's journey to where he was at that time
The Struggle
———
"We been out here for light years, it's quite clear we fight fear
Embrace hugs and ideas, we ate hearts and drank beers"
———
This captures M.anifest's academic sojourn in the US. The struggles of an immigrant student is well captured here (read The Crucifixion
by Benjamin Kwakye)
"To eat your heart out" means to suffer. Hence, that line captures both the struggles and joys.
In the midst of it all, he enjoyed the confluence of ideas but one can't discount the fear of the unknown—am I optimising my opportunities, will I succeed?
