After reading about the history of the second amend and talking with a lot of hist & law professors- I believe the second amendment has been intentionally misinterpreted. It was never meant as an individual right it was created to protect state militias like the national guard.
It says well regulated militia for a reason. The “shall not be infringed” part means the federal government is not allowed to forcibly disarm state militias. I’m not alone in this interpretation. Over 100 years of jurisprudence back me up on this.
To those who don’t agree that’s fine- you are entitled to your own opinion and I’m still ready to work with you on what we can agree on. Disagreement and hatred are not the same thing.

If I ever hear of another politician say they were waiting for a mass shooting to act on gun violence I am going to lose it. If you are a politician who is waiting for kids to die to do something please and I mean this in the most sincere way possible. Go fuck yourself.
Yes really this is an actual thing we have heard doing this work and it is insanely insulting.
I wish I could tell you who said this but I can’t because we need as many votes on upcoming bills as we can get.

At times I get so enraged at the state of affairs in our country it’s hard to even put into words. We are increasingly becoming the antithesis of what we stand for as a country..
Our leaders should be fighting to get more books on shelves not banning them.
They should protecting the marginalized not targeting them. As I see it now we have failed to promote the general welfare, promote domestic tranquility and regulate our militia.
Our kids and our future as a nation is dying as a result.

Sometimes I get really stressed about how our generation will ever make it through DeSantis and the SCOTUS. Then I remember we have the one thing on our side they can’t buy more of but is the most valuable thing to have in politics. Time. We will outlive both and we’re voting.
Like with investing the most valuable thing to have is time in the market. We are laying the groundwork now for one of the largest political shifts in modern American history.
Not only are young Americans voting at the highest rates ever were not canceling out our vote by voting 50/50 like young people did in 2000 were voting +25 for Progressives and not getting more conservative as we get older.

Just your daily reminder every single day is another opportunity to put our politics aside and work together as Americans to reduce gun violence. Until we make our response to these shootings a productive dialogue and action instead of endless debate and inaction- this won’t end.
I’m not changing what I believe in and I don’t expect you to either but I do expect us to find common ground even if small and act on it.
Studying negotiation theory and international relations this semester has made me realize there’s a nuanced approach to addressing gun violence that we can act on. But we can’t do that so long as we keep only focusing on what we can’t agree on.

Today was the first time I got a Valentine since that day in 2018 and didn’t feel triggered. I am so thankful for my therapist and friends/family who’ve helped me come this far.
Now that I got my mental health in check and a good support system I can’t wait to graduate college and do more work than ever to end gun violence.
She knows how bad I want an Aussie but can’t make it work because I travel too much and live in a dorm. So she gave me a stuffed one 😭 what should I name it? Image

If we’re smart enough to land a man on the moon before any other country I’m sure we can stop our kids from getting shot god damn it.
And honestly fuck anyone who says we can’t. We’re the most powerful country in human history. Pull your head out of the sand. The only limits we have in terms of what we can do should be the laws of physics not a lack of courage.
Seriously. If this can be a headline last century- there’s no reason “US gets through first year without a school shooting” can’t be one this century. Image
