🚨 JUST IN: The Florida GOP has introduced sweeping new legislation imposing unprecedented state control over the work of LGBTQ or allied charities, and aggressively targeting the rights of trans employees to exist in government workplaces.

This bill is NOT just about pronouns. Image
HB 599 uses vague language to ban all private charities or nonprofits from requiring any sort of instruction, training, “or other activity” about LGBTQ people.

This is a blatantly unconstitutional attempt to stop the work of @equalityfl and other LGBTQ-serving and allied orgs. Image
HB 599 also goes beyond regulation of pronouns in government workplaces— it strictly prohibits trans or non binary government employees from using preferred names or pronouns to refer to THEMSELVES, without even making any exceptions for those who’ve legally changed their name. Image

DeSantis appointees have proposed a rule implementing SB 266 in our state colleges and universities which bans any support or funding for student groups involved in "social issues" or engaging in "political or social activism".

It's censorship + exclusion like we've never seen.

The definition of "social issues" is so broad, that student groups in Florida's public colleges and universities wouldn't be able to advocate for much of anything at all-- not their own free speech rights, not for diversity and inclusion, not even for Israel or Palestine.

The use of campus facilities would be banned for student groups, programs, or campus activities that involve any "political or social activism", any "social issues" or any promotion of DEI.

Both conservative and liberal activities alike would be defunded and pushed off campus. Image

JUST IN: After a 2-year battle, the DeSantis administration has agreed to settle my public records lawsuit against them for illegally hiding COVID health data while the Delta variant ripped thru Florida killing 23,000 people.

We persisted. We prevailed. We held them accountable.

This agreement requires them to:

✅ Issue weekly reporting of public health data for 3 years

Ron DeSantis' entire political brand is centered around his story of how he took on "woke" Disney and won!

The "corporate kingdom has come to an end", he bragged.

Turns out, that story was a fairytale-- Ronnie lost and was just stunningly outmaneuvered by the Mouse. 🧵
Ron DeSantis invested nearly everything into promoting his narrative of how he stuck it to Disney for having the temerity to oppose his agenda.

He wrote op-ed's about it, bragged on Fox News, and made it a central focus of his new book.

That House of Cards is now collapsing....
Ronnie just learned the hard way that Disney always wins...except when it's working people and unions fighting for fair wages and benefits.
