“A #StandforFreedom statewide movement and walkout is scheduled from 12-1PM Thursday on Florida college campuses….host organizations stated ‘We’re asking that you walk out of your classes, jobs and other obligations to meet at your campus student center.’ tallahassee.com/story/news/loc…
“The demonstration will demand bringing an end to what organizers say is "the DeSantis administration's attacks on LGBTQ+ and BIPOC students, faculty and staff." The march will request to restore diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives in all colleges across the state.”
“At FSU, the walkout is expected to involve students meeting at the Westcott Fountain on the university's campus before marching to the governor's mansion on North Adams Street — a 22-minute walk.”
“Besides location arrangements at FSU, UCF students plan to meet at their university's Memory Mall Flag Pole for the movement Thursday while USF students will meet on the lawn of their university's Phyllis P. Marshall Student Center.”

Nearly every state agency in Florida abandoned its core mission of helping people in service to DeSantis’ failed campaign.
DCF’s Secretary even plowed thru Iowa snow, while 2.1 MILLION kids went hungry, so that Ron could lose all 99 counties.
Was it worth it?
“The state’s disinterest means the families of an estimated 2.1 MILLION children who would have been eligible for the program won’t receive the additional help paying for grocery bills at a time when inflation continues to drive up food prices.”
“In Florida, Miami and Tampa continue to see the highest rates of inflation in the country, with prices on average up more than 5% compared to last year.”
🚨 JUST IN: The Florida GOP has introduced sweeping new legislation imposing unprecedented state control over the work of LGBTQ or allied charities, and aggressively targeting the rights of trans employees to exist in government workplaces.
This bill is NOT just about pronouns.
HB 599 uses vague language to ban all private charities or nonprofits from requiring any sort of instruction, training, “or other activity” about LGBTQ people.
This is a blatantly unconstitutional attempt to stop the work of @equalityfl and other LGBTQ-serving and allied orgs.
HB 599 also goes beyond regulation of pronouns in government workplaces— it strictly prohibits trans or non binary government employees from using preferred names or pronouns to refer to THEMSELVES, without even making any exceptions for those who’ve legally changed their name.
DeSantis appointees have proposed a rule implementing SB 266 in our state colleges and universities which bans any support or funding for student groups involved in "social issues" or engaging in "political or social activism".
It's censorship + exclusion like we've never seen.
The definition of "social issues" is so broad, that student groups in Florida's public colleges and universities wouldn't be able to advocate for much of anything at all-- not their own free speech rights, not for diversity and inclusion, not even for Israel or Palestine.
The use of campus facilities would be banned for student groups, programs, or campus activities that involve any "political or social activism", any "social issues" or any promotion of DEI.
Both conservative and liberal activities alike would be defunded and pushed off campus.
JUST IN: After a 2-year battle, the DeSantis administration has agreed to settle my public records lawsuit against them for illegally hiding COVID health data while the Delta variant ripped thru Florida killing 23,000 people.
We persisted. We prevailed. We held them accountable.
The DeSantis administration finally gave us the public records we requested after lying in court saying they didn’t exist.
This agreement requires them to:
✅ Issue weekly reporting of public health data for 3 years
✅ Pay my legal team $152,500 in attorneys’ fees/costs
All Floridians have a constitutional right to know, especially when they need to make informed decisions impacting the health and safety of their families. That’s why I filed a lawsuit against @HealthyFla when they refused to comply with my lawful requests for COVID records.
AMAZING! The momentum behind our Florida Senate campaign continues to grow with new endorsements from Dem Senators Geraldine Thompson, @VicTorres_FL, @loriberman and @ShevrinJones!
I’m honored to have earned support from this group of trailblazers. Thank you! Together we WIN!
“As someone who has spent over 40 years fighting for underserved communities in Central Florida, I know how critical it is to elect leaders who will stand up for the most vulnerable among us. Carlos Guillermo Smith is that leader, and I am proud to endorse him.”
“I have known Carlos for more than a decade and worked with him to support labor union worker’s rights, more opportunities for our Hispanic and Latino residents and to protect the health and safety of all Floridians. That is why I am proud to endorse @CarlosGSmith for FL SD17.”
