Today, TUGSA members finished voting on the Tentative Agreement reached with @TempleUniv on Friday. Membership voted over 92% to REJECT the agreement with over 83% of the membership voting. As a result, the strike will continue. We are ready to bargain tomorrow.
A 🧵 (1/8)
The terms of the Tentative Agreement provide for minimal raises, increasing the average TA/RA’s pay to around $21,500. By the end of the contract, in 2026, the average TA/RA will be making just over $23,600. (2/8)
On dependent care, the Tentative Agreement with @TempleUniv offered no monetary support. Temple says they will look into “more affordable plans” for dependents, but without any guarantees on when/how/or what this would entail. (3/8)
Why did the TUGSA CNT make a tentative agreement? @TempleUniv made this offer and said to bring it to the members for a vote before continuing to bargain. In order to ensure the legitimacy of that vote, the CNT agreed to tentatively agree to the offer. (4/8)
Because we made this decision and the results of this vote are so decisive, we believe we have a democratic mandate to return to the table quickly and settle a contract that provides members with what they need and can pass ratification. (5/8)
TUGSA members know that @TempleUniv has the resources to support its graduate TAs and RAs, that is why the strike has grown every day since it began, including since the details about the TA were shared with members. It has always been about choices. We’ve made ours. (6/8)
We look forward to bargaining with @TempleUniv as soon as possible, including tomorrow, as we believe there is a clear path forward that is easily and quickly achievable for both sides. (7/8)
We are incredibly grateful for the continued support and guidance of our affiliates @AFTPA@AFTunion & @PhillyAFLCIO, and our allies in @TAUP@ruaaup and the entire labor movement. Solidarity. (8/8)
