Quick summary of the Murdaugh trial:

He's a rich lawyer with a long-time drug problem (opiates).

He apparently killed his wife and son to distract from the embezzlement case against him alleging he stole a few million dollars from his law firm.
(cont.)
A couple months after he murdered his wife and son, he was found on the side of the road with a gunshot wound to the head. It turns out that he had paid his drug dealer to kill him, but the guy botched the job.
(cont.)
He has incredibly decided to take the stand at his own trial for murder. He has already admitted he lied to police about being an opiate addict, lied about his alibi, lied about being at the crime scene just before the murders, and admitted to embezzling funds from his law firm.
