#Uttarabhadra #Nakshatra - a discourse

Ācārya: Alright, let us do this Nakṣatra, the Nakṣatra of psychic development and righteousness. Let us start with the understanding of The Devatā. Sunidhi, do you know who the Devatā is?
Sunidhi: I suppose it is Ahirbudhnya – the serpent of the deep ocean.
Jayanta: Guruji, let me narrate what I know.
‘Ahirbudhnya’ is one who, in the form of an ‘ahi’ or serpent, is the ‘budhna’ or foundation of the world. So, it refers to Śeṣanāga or Ananta, the ...
... thousand-hooded serpent, on whose head the whole world is said to be supported. He is the third of the Ekādaśa Rudras.
Ācārya: Very well. What is the symbol of this Nakṣatra?
Kailāśa: I know what it is. It is the back legs of a funeral cot or a snake in the water.
Ācārya: What does it signify?
Kailāśa: The funeral cot must indicate that the person is freed from worldly bondage and has united with the divine consciousness. The snake also indicates a completion of the life and death cycle and the attainment of a higher spiritual realm.
Is that right?
Ācārya: Yes, that is an excellent assessment.
Sunidhi: Guruji, kindly let us know the key characteristics of this Nakṣatra.
Ācārya: They are vaktā, sukhi, prajāvan, jitaśatru, dhārmika, paravān, vibhu, dṛḍhavrata and sadākāmi. ...
... Jayanta, you may explain their meaning.
Jayanta: Certainly, Guruji! They mean the following: vaktā orator; sukhi happy; prajāvan many children; jitaśatru subdue enemies; dhārmika righteous; paravān helpful to others; vibhu all-pervading, powerful; dṛḍhavrata ...
... firm objective, determined; sadākāmi ever sensual.
Sunidhi: Guruji, kindly elaborate on them.
Ācārya: To understand their subtle qualities, you must reflect on Ahirbudhnya Devatā, rear legs of a funeral cot, Śani Viñśottarī Graha, Mīna Rāśi, Siṅha to Vṛścika Navāñśa, ...
... and Sthira quality. Budha attains Nīca in Uttarābhādra4, mapped to Mīna Rāśi – Vṛścika Añśa.
vaktā means orator. This is due to the influence of Mīna Rāśi, which is the Uccarāśi of Śukra. Śukra is the orator. However, Uttarābhādra4 is an exception since it is where ...
... Budha (vac or speech) attains Nīcatva. The 4th Pāda maps to Vṛścika Navāñśa, which is the Rāśi of silence!
sukhi means happy due to the influence of Guru and Śukra, two Saumya Grahas. Mīna is the Rāśi of peace, and from here, Candra’s (mental peace) Rāśi, ...
... Karka, is in 5H (subconscious mind).
prajāvan means many children. This is due to the influence of Mīna Rāśi. Guru is the Kāraka for children, and Jalatattva promotes procreation. This is also the Uccarāśi of Śukra, promoting sexuality, an essential ingredient for ...
... procreation and progression of lineage. This is also the Mūlatrikoṇa Rāśi of Ketu – ketum kulasya unnatim – Ketu, the progressor or lineage.
jitaśatru means subdue enemies. This is due to the Ahirbudhnya Devatā, the Rudra, and the serpent of the deep ocean.
He is a Tapasvī and a warrior. Rudras are impossible to defeat since they are personified fierceness.
dhārmika means righteous, which is due to the effects of Mīna, the Rāśi of the Maharṣis, and Śrī Ahirbudhnya Devatā, the Tapasvī. This is also the result of Śani’s ...
... influence, who is Yama Dharmarāja, and it is his job to protect Dharma and punish the miscreants.
paravān means helpful to others. para means others, and vān is focused on. So the Uttarābhādras are focused on being helpful to others. They spend significant effort in ...
... helping others to succeed. They are gifted with the power of the Tapasvī Śrī Ahirbudhnya and the ability to see the future. They have natural skills for a psychic reading, tarot, Jyotiṣa and other such art with which they help others.
vibhu means all-pervading, like Lord Śrī Viṣṇu. It also means powerful. This is because of the blessings of the Nakṣatra Devatā. They are powerful and difficult to defeat (jitaśatru)!
dṛḍhavrata means firm, objective and determined. This is due to the influence of Rudra, who is performing his austerities with firm determination. Tapasyā causes suffering to one’s mortal frame, which one overcomes with determination. The Uttarābhādras do not budge ...
... from their goal and stay focused, like the serpent of the deep ocean.
sadākāmi means ever sensual. This is the effect of the serpentine power. The iconography of snakes is connected with the progression of one’s lineage (Ketu). Dreams of snakes often indicate ...
... the pregnancy and birth of children. The serpentine power, as in the Mūlādhāra Cakra (Ketu), activates one’s sexuality. This is also the Nakṣatra of many children, which is also due to this indication!
Its mantra is “oṃ śivonām āsisvadhi tisto pitā namaste ‘stumāmāhi gavaṃ so nirvattayāmyāyuṣe’trādyāya prajananāyara suprajāsvāya।”
The Nakṣatra devatā mantra is oṃ ahirbuṃdhanyāya namaḥ (ॐ अहिर्बुंधन्याय नमः)
Jayanta: Guruji, what are the other characteristics of this Nakṣatra?
Ācārya: This is a Nakṣatra of enormous wealth. Some of the wealthiest people and elitists are born in this Nakṣatra. Their life is normally a struggle initially, and after 52, they become wealthy.
Sunidhi: Why 52 Guruji?
Ācārya: This is one of the significant ages associated with the Nakṣatra. Each Nakṣatra has some significant ages.
Kailāśa: Guruji, I heard that the Uttarābhādras are good with occult and magic. Is that true?
Ācārya: This is one of the psychic Nakṣatras, as denoted by Ahirbudhnya, the serpent of the deep ocean. Therefore, they have some psychic or occult power.
They can communicate with the almighty and the spiritual realm.
Therefore, it is natural that they are adept in the occult and magic.
Kailāśa: But are they harmful?
Ācārya: Normally, the Uttarābhādras are spiritual and helpful; only rarely do they become indulge in black magic or abhicāra. If they do, they are highly capable of such art.
Sunidhi: Guruji what is Abhicāra?
Ācārya: It is the usage of tantric and mantric knowledge to harm others. Occult knowledge is powerful and can be used to harm others. They are called Ṣaṭkarma, including Śāntikaraṇa, Vaśīkaraṇa, Uccāṭana, Vidveśana, Stambhana and Maraṇa.
Śāntikaraṇa is good as it pacifies something. Vaśīkaraṇa involves ceasing control of something, Uccāṭana causes disruption, Vidveśana causes dissension or fighting, Stambhana causes immobilisation, and Maraṇa causes death.
They are meant to control the world’s evil, but sometimes, people use them for evil purposes.
Sunidhi: How can things like Vaśīkaraṇa, Uccāṭana, Vidveśana, Stambhana and Maraṇa be good?
Ācārya: Good or bad depends on the context. If you are fighting a battle with a very powerful evil, you need to use everything at your disposal to overpower that. These are mere tools which are good in good people’s hands and bad in the hands of evil people.
It is like a gun or a weapon. It is good in the hands of police and security, who use it for protecting human life and important assets. But the same gun is used by terrorists to kill innocent humans.
The Tantric rites help the wielder of the knowledge to control the natural elements. It is good in good hands.
Kailāśa: Guruji, so, do the Uttarābhādras use this for evil purposes?
Ācārya: No, normally they don’t. Because it is not an Ugra or Tīkṣṇa Nakṣatra.
Sunidhi: What are Ugra or Tīkṣṇa Nakṣatras?
Ācārya: Nakṣatras are classified into 7 groups, Sthira (Dhruva), Cara, Ugra, Tīkṣṇa, Mṛdu, Laghu (Kṣipra) and Miśra. Among them, Ugra and Tīkṣṇa Nakṣatras are violent and destructive.
The 3 Pūrvās, Bharaṇī and Maghā are Ugra and Mūla, Jyeṣṭha, Ārdrā and Aśleṣā are Tīkṣṇa. It is mainly the Tīkṣṇa Nakṣatra who can be highly destructive. Among the Vāras, Maṅgalavāra is Ugra and Śanivāra is Tīkṣṇa.
Therefore, these Vāras are used for most evil and dangerous activities.
Jayanta: This is taught by Guruji before. The classification of the Nakṣatras is as follows. People born in these Nakṣatras inherit those qualities.
1. Four Nakṣatras, 3 Uttaras, Rohiṇī and Ravivāra are Sthira/Dhruva.
2. Five Nakṣatra, Svāti, Punarvasu, Śravaṇa, Dhaniṣṭhā, Śatabhiṣā, and Somavāra are Cara.
3. Four Nakṣatras, Hastā, Aśvinī, Puṣya, Abhijīt and Bṛhaspativāra are Laghu/Kṣipra.
4. Four Nakṣatras, Mṛgaśirā, Revatī, Citra, Anurādhā, and Śukravāra are Mṛdu.
5. Two Nakṣatras, Viśākhā, Kṛttikā, and Budhavāra are Miśra.
6. Five Nakṣatra, 3 Pūrvās, Bharaṇī, Maghā and Maṅgalavāra are Ugra.
7. Four Nakṣatras, Mūla, Jyeṣṭha, Ārdrā, Aśleṣā and Śanivāra are Tīkṣṇa.
Kailāśa: Guruji, I have read somewhere that Uttarābhādras do not harm others but are subject to back magic and abhicāra. Is that true?
Ācārya: The Nakṣatra belongs to Mīna Rāśi and is owned by Śani. The Uttarābhādras are benevolent, but they fight for a cause. They do not harm others but are subject to harm.
Having said that, if the person indulges in Tantra and Mantra, they become highly capable.
They can cure people of ailments and back magic afflictions.
But normally, Uttarābhādras may be subject to serious black magic. Most of them believe in black magic.
This is a Nakṣatra of the occult since they are in divine communion, so they do involve in some occult practices.
Kailāśa: What if Śukra or 7L is in this Nakṣatra? Does that mean that the spouse is afflicted by black magic?
Ācārya: Yes, that is possible. The indications of a Nakṣatra can be extended to other areas of life.
Sunidhi: Guruji, I heard that if 4L is in this Nakṣatra, the native keeps some occult items at home or in the vehicle. Is that true?
Ācārya: Yes, that is possible. 4L deals with land, home and vehicles. So, there is a possibility.
Also note that if there is an association of Badhakeśa and 6L, the person may be afflicted by black magic, and there is a possibility that there is a Kṣudra (occult item) hidden somewhere in their home or land (4L is also involved).
Jayanta: Guruji, I know of a lady born in Kanyā Lagna, with Uttarābhādra in the Bādhaka Rāśi (7H Mīna). Uttarābhādra is the Nakṣatra of 6L Śani. The Nakṣatra has Candra, the 11L. The lady is afflicted by black magic. There is a connection between the Bādhaka sthāna and 6L.
Ācārya: Since it is happening in 7H, the husband could also get affected. Also, since Candra is the 11L, the elder sibling could be involved.
Sunidhi: Could the mother be involved since Candra is the Kāraka for the mother?
Ācārya: No, but the mother could be indirectly involved.
Sunidhi: Why is the mother not involved, Guruji?
Ācārya: That is because Candra’s Nakṣatra indicates the native. That does not mean that mother is involved with the Nakṣatra indications of everyone. This could have been the case if 4L was in this Nakṣatra.
Kailāśa: Guruji, why are the Uttarābhādras adept in cheating, swindling, conning or mesmerising others?
Ācārya: Who told you that? You should not predict that unless Candra is afflicted in this Nakṣatra. If Candra is afflicted, this could be possible, ...
... but Candra must also be the 6L or have a connection with 6H/8H. 6H/8H is the house controlling criminal activities. Maṅgala’s involvement also shows that.
Kailāśa: Dhanyavād Guruji for clarifying this.
Sunidhi: Guruji, since the Uttarābhādras are in communion with the divinity, does it not make them a seer?
Ācārya: Indeed, they have many such fantastic qualities. They can foresee things and have a strong premonition.
They are good with occult sciences such as tarot, reading of signs, nimittas, jyotiṣa and praśnaśāstra.
They are an oracle. They have seeped into psychic and mystical abilities.
They are in connection with the divine force and get insights and inspiration from the spiritual realm. They can also become spirit channels for devatās or divine forces.
They are insightful and show the right path for people with problems. They make good advisors and counsellors
They are not into gaining bookish knowledge, but they directly experience the hidden realm. If they are not in control or guided by someone, this can also result in mental derangement or schizophrenia.
Kailāśa: So, in summary, they have high spirituality?
Ācārya: Yes, they do. They make excellent spiritual teachers, researchers of spiritual philosophy, Upanishad, Vedāṅga, Vedānta, Purāṇa, Bhagavadgītā etc.
Sunidhi: What if Śukra/7L in this Nakṣatra?
Ācārya: It could mean the spouse is spiritual or the native has a spiritual married life.
Sunidhi: I have seen some Uttarābhādras good with sketching and painting. Is that true?
Ācārya: That is the effect of Mīna Rāśi and Siṅha to Vṛścika Navāñśa. This effect is powerful in Kanyā or Tulā Navāñśa due to the effects of Budha or Śukra.
Such natives are highly creative and good artists.
They are good with sculpting, painting, designing, interior design and handicrafts.
The same effect is seen from 3L in this Nakṣatra because it is the lord of natural talent. If 2L/11L/10L is in this Nakṣatra, the native could earn from art and handicraft.
Jayanta: Anything else, Guruji?
Ācārya: This is a Nakṣatra of great intelligence and deep thinking. They have profound knowledge, quick wit and great presence of mind. They respond quickly in a conversation with great insights.
Kailāśa: What are the negatives of this Nakṣatra Guruji?
Ācārya: Firstly, they could be afflicted by black magic or kudṛṣṭi. If there are afflictions, and 6L/8L is involved, they can get into an addiction to alcohol and drugs. If an afflicted 6L and Śukra are involved, ...
... there could be an addiction to sex and prostitution, leading to venereal disease.
Kailāśa: Why prostitution, Guruji?
Ācārya: Remember that one of the characteristics of this Nakṣatra is sadākāmi which is heightened sexual desires.
If that is not fulfilled, and there are afflictions, that can lead the person astray into sexual extravagance.
But in general, this is not true unless there is an affliction. If Candra is pure and with the influence of Saumyas, in a female Kuṇḍalī, ...
... this is one of the best Nakṣatra. The person is the house’s Lakṣmī (Gṛhalakṣmī).
She is devoted to her house, husband and family; she is committed to her duties and responsibilities. She is the lucky charm of the husband.
There is constant improvement in the husband’s life after marrying such a lady.
Sunidhi: Guruji, what are the vocational indicators of this Nakṣatra?
Uttarābhādra is a Sthira Nakṣatra; therefore, it is propitious for activities requiring fixity, such as coronations, ...
... laying the foundations of cities, sowing operations, planting trees and other permanent things.
Its primary vocational indicators are brāhmaṇa, performing austerities, religious ceremonies, ascetics or kings; the study of Vedas and śāstras, religious work, priest, ...
... saint, jyotiṣī, mystic; …financial acumen, financial advisor, wealth manager; …international trade import and exports; …transportation, tours and travels.
Its secondary indicators are charitable work, non-profit organisations, humanitarian relief; ...
…writers, philosophers, teachers, researchers
According to Ācārya Varāhamihira, Puṣya, Uttarāphālgunī, Uttarāṣāṛhā and Uttarābhādra are Rājās (kṣatriyas, warriors). In Bṛhatsaṅhitā 15.24, the Ācārya states that the Uttarābhādras are brāhmaṇa,...
... performers of sacrificial right, generous, charitable, devout, wealthy, observant of holy order, heretics, rulers, dealer of rice.

#LostObject Prasna
Ācārya: Let us examine other Yogas regarding lost object.
9.182. If Candra is in a Pṛṣṭodaya Rāśi the alleged lost property is not lost but is somewhere in the house itself. If that Rāśi is dṛṣṭied by Śani the article is in a high place, and if that Rāśi
is related to Maṅgala it is not in the high place.
Ācārya: Examine Candra in a Praśnakuṇḍalī and decipher results based on his disposition. If Candra is in a Pṛṣṭodaya Rāśi (rising backward) the alleged lost property is not lost but is somewhere in the house.
Sunidhi: Guruji, why must it be so?
Ācārya: That is because the Pṛṣṭodayi Rāśis are focused backward, i.e., the thing is directed towards its origin. They denote a backward motion. Therefore, when Pṛṣṭodayi Rāśi/Añśa rises at Janma, the foetus tries to remain within the

A discourse on Graha/Rasi Karakatvas from Jnana Pradeepika.

2.30-31. Guru, Budha are Puruṣa and they are strong in Udayarāśi. Sūrya and Maṅgala are Catuṣpāda and they are strong in 10H (Anta). The Śukra and Candra are Jalacara
and they are strong in 4H in Jalarāśis (Karka/Mīna). Śani and Rāhu are Kīṭa and they are powerful in 7H.
Jayanta: Guruji,
kindly elaborate on this.
Ācārya: You must have already heart about Dikbala. Guru/Budha attain Dikbala in Lagna, Candra/Śukra in 4H, Śani in 7H and Sūrya/Maṅgala in 10H. These are Graha Dikbala.
Similarly, there are Rāśi Dikbala. For this purpose, the Rāśis are classed into four

Sunidhi: Guruji, kindly narrate the rules that we should use in judging a Praśnakuṇḍalī.
Ācārya: Some general rules apply to most places, and there are specific rules that apply to specific Praśna. Let me narrate the general rules. ...
Rule 1: Identify the Kāryabhāva and Kāryeśa. These two are the most crucial factors in Praśna. Identify their association with Grahas (yutidṛṣṭi) or any special Yoga formation.
Rule 2: Check if the Kāryabhāva/Kāryeśa has any Sambandha with the Praśna Lagna/Lagneśa. The objective of the Praśna is fulfilled if such Sambandha is present.

A snip from the upcoming book on Prasna Shastra. #InSearchOfJyotish #ISJBook23A

Jayanta: Guruji, why must we learn Praśna Śāstra when we can divine most things from the Janmakuṇḍalī?
Ācārya: Not everything can be divined from the Janmakuṇḍalī, ...
... say, identifying the place of lost objects, identifying the thief who has stolen it, etc. Besides, there is another important reason.
The Janmakuṇḍalī is the blueprint of what you did in your past lives and what results are in store for you. ...
... But, how about the Karmas you did in this life? Would it not have any effect on your life experiences? If so, how would you check it from the Janmakuṇḍalī?
Our life is dynamic. We start from a starting point, that is at Janma. But we perform newer Karmas, ...

#Revati #Nakshatra - A discourse

Kailāśa: Guruji, let us discuss the last and 27th Nakṣatra, Revatī.
Ācārya: So, who is the Devatā of Revatī?
Kailāśa: It is Pūṣana, one of the Dvādasāditya, the nourisher.
Ācārya: He is related to which Rāśi?
Sunidhi: Guruji, Pūṣana relates to Tulā and lives in the trees and herbs. He stands for curiosity, change and sexual intercourse.
Jayanta: Guruji, as much as I know, Pūṣana is the devatā of protection and meeting. He is responsible for marriages, journeys, roads, feeding ...
... cattle, conducting souls to the other world, and protecting travellers from bandits and wild beasts.
He protects men from being exploited by other men, a supportive guide, leading his followers towards rich pastures and wealth, carrying a golden lance, a symbol of activity.

#InSearchOfJyotish #ISJBook10 10.4.1.2.5 #Randhresha #8L

Regarding Randhreśa, there is some confusion regarding what Maharṣi Parāśara stated. On the one hand, he says that the Lords of Vyāya, Dvitīya and Randhra become Kāraka or Akāraka based on the ownership of another Bhāva.
However, in the following statement, he states that Randhreśa is not favourable, as he owns the Vyāya (loss) from Dharmabhāva (righteousness).
If Randhra is considered unfavourable, why must its nature be divined from the other Lord?
We may conclude here that Randhreśa is not completely neutral (Taṭastha) like Dhaneśa and Vyāyeśa and carries some degree of unfavorability (Akārakatva). This is toned down considerably when it owns a Koṇa, like in the case of Śani for Mithuna, or Budha for Makara...
