Going to coin a (potentially) new term on Twitter. This might take a few tweets so bear with me. #BlackTwitter will get this pretty quickly so bear with me while I explain.
1981 Lee Atwater interview basically outline the definition of dogwhistle politics.
1/
Let me share the specifics of what I want to focus on:
"You start out in 1954 by saying, “Nigger, nigger, nigger.” By 1968 you can’t say “nigger”—that hurts you. So you say stuff like, uh, forced busing, states’ rights, and all that stuff, and you’re getting so abstract.
2/
Now, you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things & a byproduct of them is, blacks get hurt worse than whites.…
3/
“We want to cut this,” is much more abstract than even the busing thing, uh, and a hell of a lot more abstract than “Nigger, nigger.”
Let's focus on the underlying goal of what he said "Black's get hurt worse than whites" by using language to install a candidate to operate the levers of government to manipulate these so-called abstract issues.
But the intent is the same.
Marginalized communities hurt worse
5
So whenever a candidate targets a social safety net program, or proposes a constitutional amendment to mandate a balanced budget or whatever...where marginalized communities will suffer *more* than more affluent communities we can assume the intent is the same.
6/
The term I propose to describe this is The Atwater Doctrine.
It's dogwhistle politics just as Ian Haney Lopez defined it but expanded to encompass more than just *language* that sounds nice as a precursor to some horrible policy.
Maybe when I can forget almost being shot by 4 cops during a traffic stop as a passenger. Someday...but not today.
The general message here is "stop talking about racism" I don't know this man or his story but let's utilize a different approach I learned from @sandylocks
2/
Let's replace "racism" with "asbestos " & see how that it sounds.
If we stop talking about asbestos, things will be better.
Maybe if we ignore the asbestos, it will go away.
What if we treated those exposed to asbestos the same as those not exposed to asbestos.

Ok. This has been in my mind a LOT lately.
These so-called "pastors" and "religious leaders " bear their fair share of responsibility for the mess we're in. The amount of cognitive dissonance displayed in these folks is only comparable to a religious belief.
1/"
"Christian" is nothing more than a label to identify with a particular tribe.
What did Christ (whom these people claim to follow the teachings of) try to teach in the Beatitudes?
Let's start off with one the just baffles me...
2/
"Blessed be the peacemakers" (there's more but let's just stop there.
Peacemakers....how I can you call yourself a "Christian" while you're out raising unholy hell Momday thru Saturday then plant your ass in church Sunday morning singing Amazing Grace? 3/
I want to give you (whomever is reading) a *gameplan* to help us try to slow down the spread of COVID19. I know "wash your hands" is the general guidance, but I don't think it's specific enough, so I'm giving you a strategy to implement.
2/
How do I know this and what qualifies me to tell anyone about this??
14 years of Naval service, 10 of which were served onboard nuclear powered vessels (most notably, submarines).
We had to learn techniques and strategies to help keep is and everyone else safe in an emergency.
