on #voting machines from ES&S (@essvote) applying for use in #NY focuses on #misinformation.
But what about misinformation from ES&S. Like they lied to @NYSBOE
about where they had pending lawsuits

Facts about what will happen if #NY uses all-touchscreen #voting machines.
- They will "cost a small fortune to purchase & maintain."
- They cost $10,000 each, double the cost of a standard scanner + you have to buy A LOT more. HIgher costs x more machines = OUCH for taxpayers Image
How many more #voting machines are used w/all-touchscreen (all-BMD) systems?

#BMD = ballot-marking device, All systems have BMDs for voters who want to use them. We don't all need to.

@OSET estimates all-BMD systems require 5 TIMES as many voting machines. Costs go up not down. Image

White American evangelicals are continuing to destroy Africa. Queer & trans folks have been accepted in many African nations since time immemorial. But invasive evangelical extremists like Scott Lively, backed by millions of dollars, are sewing seeds of deadly hate towards (1)
(2) LGBTQ+ communities in Uganda, Ghana, Kenya and other nations. It's the same classic practice white invaders have used against Indigenous peoples of color all over the world: teach people that Western beliefs are superior and all else is inferior and "savage." If you're not

Going to coin a (potentially) new term on Twitter. This might take a few tweets so bear with me. #BlackTwitter will get this pretty quickly so bear with me while I explain.

1981 Lee Atwater interview basically outline the definition of dogwhistle politics.
1/
Let me share the specifics of what I want to focus on:
"You start out in 1954 by saying, ā€œNigger, nigger, nigger.ā€ By 1968 you canā€™t say ā€œniggerā€ā€”that hurts you. So you say stuff like, uh, forced busing, statesā€™ rights, and all that stuff, and youā€™re getting so abstract.
2/
Now, youā€™re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things youā€™re talking about are totally economic things & a byproduct of them is, blacks get hurt worse than whites.ā€¦

Was this #dogwalker a #whitewoman by any chance?

For those of us in marginalized communities, Twitter has always held a lot of harassment, but it's been balanced by activist communities on here. So #BlackTwitter, #LGBTQ__Twitter, #DisabilityTwitter--these are critically important communities that deserve support, not dismissal.
Relentless whining by predominately ā¬œ folks who don't even interact with their followers like I do and others do is really annoying and counterproductive. Many of us wish you'd stop doing it. If you hate Twitter, leave. But don't ruin it for those of us who need it for survival.
If you can't find anyone worthy to interact with on here, that's a you problem, not a Twitter problem. There are so many folks on here who fascinate me, who are brilliant, who I learn from. There are folks I genuinely love. I have made RL friendships on here. You can, too.

No matter how benevolent a dictatorship is, it's still a dictatorship, and subject to the dictator's whims. #BlackTwitter, why give Elon $8 a month? We have six shows on the @BlkStarNetwork. Three shows in development. We want to launch 5 more next year. I am asking for $50 a year. Thatā€™s 4.19 a month; 13 cents a day. HALF of what Elon wants! Give at RolandMartinUnfiltered.com! 1/6
Since launching four years ago, 30,000 people have joined the @BlkStarNetwork #BringTheFunk Fan Club. WE canā€™t keep saying we want and need Black news if WE donā€™t fund it! I have NO millionaires/billionaires funding me. NO Black celebs cutting big checks. But we do the work! 2/6

I think Twitter is a good news aggregator and useful for journalists and writers and thoughtful people to communicate ideas. Thereā€™s also a lot of laughs here and great content (hello, #blacktwitter!) Itā€™s also a hellscape of trolling and foolishness. Musk Twitter will be worse.
Especially on the disinformation front, given his affinity for Putin and vow to reinstate Trump. I donā€™t plan to delete my account but I certainly will be on here a lot less and focus on other social media outlets. (You can find me on Tiktok at @msnbcjoy & IG at @JoyAnnReid.)
And most importantly Iā€™ll be on @thereidout on @msnbc weeknights at 7pm ET! Probably good for my time management and mental health to do less tweeting anyway. šŸ¤£ And Iā€™ll still browse Twitter from time to time to check for important stories I may be missing and to post show info.

An early reference to someone being "canceled" was in 2014, in an episode of "Love & Hip-Hop: New York" when a cast member told his girlfriend "You're canceled" when she revealed she had a daughter. So it became a lighthearted way to show disapproval toward a person's actions.
Also in 2014, activistĀ Suey ParkĀ called out "a blatantly racist tweet about Asians" from the official Twitter account ofĀ The Colbert ReportĀ using the hashtag #cancelColbert, which generated widespread outrage againstĀ Stephen Colbert, even though theĀ tweet was a satirical tweet.
By 2015, the concept of canceling had become widespread onĀ #BlackTwitterĀ to refer to a personal decision, sometimes seriously but often in jest, to stop supporting a person or work.

1/5 I certainly do not advocate wishing anyone an "excruciating" death, as a professor at @CarnegieMellon seems to have done, unless they have--there are numerous examples of this--personally and willfully been cruel to others.

Firing this professor would be the wrong answer.
2/5 Some on #BlackTwitter have responded to #QueenElizabeth's death with glee, citing colonial grievances, and it is indeed my understanding that Adolf Hitler took the British Empire as a model.

But many folks saw the Queen as a mostly ceremonial figurehead.
3/5 If we are to wish ill on others, their personal and willful culpability must be established. #QueenElizabeth's personal and willful culpability, as at least putatively a ceremonial figurehead, has not. This does not sound like justice and #BlackTwitter should heed this.

Post Colonization ā©

South Africans HATE other Africans.

Ghanaians despise Nigerians.

In Nigeria, Hausas & Igbos bear sharped, kill-ready pocket knives to take each other's lives.

In Ethiopia, Tigrayans are maimed and treated like slaves in their own land.

Once an African gets to power he wants to rule forever & Take away the sources of livelihood of millions of poor families.

In the same Africa, South Africans who should have been the ones to feel the heat of history more, thanks to apartheid, kill other Africans like fowls.

And we think the Queen's death is our Victory?

Reminiscing how much we hate our history & doing nothing to make it count will only make us enemies of ourselves.

My tribe, Igbo knew the worst of colonization in West Africa (not exergerating) which explains why my big sister

HR40 was introduced in 1989. HR40's purpose was simply to create a commission to STUDY and RECOMMEND reparations proposals for Black Americans. This bill has languished for 33 years without ever coming to the floor of the House of Representatives.
Any of the 3 democratic presidents since 1989 office, (@BillClinton, @BarackObama, and @JoeBiden), during that 33 year period could have signed an executive order creating such a commission with the stroke of a pen. NONE of them have done so.
By virtually every economic measurement, Black Americans come in #DEADLAST in terms of wealth, income, healthcare, home-ownership; and first in terms of the incarceration rate and homelessness. We are projected to be wealthless by 2030. ImageImageImageImage

Margaret Sanger, (born September 14, 1879, Corning, New York, U.S.ā€”died September 6, 1966, Tucson, Arizona), founder of the birth control movement in the United States. She is credited with originating the term ā€œbirth control.ā€

This is NOT okay. Our class did a project after reading the book V for Vendetta. This book talks about an antihero named V tearing down the government for racism, sexism, and homophobia. All of which can be pinpointed to a few things happening currently in our world. Our teacher,
Mrs Oā€™Connor provided us with a poster board and had us associate it to real world things. We were allowed to choose anything from womens rights to religion, police brutality, and racism. Most of her classes decided to link the book to the Black Lives Matter movement, as you can
see in the videos and images provided. Upon which she was pulled from our classroom by the schools security and was told it was offensive and that our research was false despite credited resources on each and every poster on the lockers. They insisted that itā€™s not all cops ImageImageImageImage
