Why is Mukesh Ambani, inspite of paying $2.7 Billion to get IPL Streaming Rights planning to broadcast it for FREE?
And
How he is planning to disrupt the OTT industry that he did a few years back with the telecom industry through JIO. (1/n) #IPL#IPLonJioCinema#India
1) Increased traffic rate
The first and foremost thing an OTT company does is to reach their content and episodes to a large number of audience. This is the most toughest of all because people want a strong reason to try out your new OTT platform. (2/n)
Since IPL is watched by crores of people all over the world of different age groups from small children to retired people, it becomes relatively easy for the JIO OTT to bring in all those people and make them download the app and sign them in to the OTT. (3/n)
2) Paid Subscription
These new consumers, after a few days, will not only watch IPL, but also start trying out different shows available on the platform. If they start liking it, the OTT team will start rolling ways to gradually turn them into a paid subscriber. (4/n)
3) Data Recharge
If you closely follow what Reliance has been doing for the last half a decade, then you could figure it out that they are trying to create an 'ECOSYSTEM'. A system in which the growth of one helps in the growth of the other. (5/n)
It is said that watching a single match live will take around 3-5 gb based on the quality of the video. So, once their data gets over, they have to recharge their Jio Data packs(Data recharge can only be done by Jio data packs) and data add on packs in Jio starts from ₹181.(6/n)
4) Ad Revenue
Since it is broadcasted for free, crores of people watch this. And hence, cost of the ads played during the match is only going to get expensive. Ads can be played between the overs or simply they can follow Sony or Star in this regard. (7/n)
Further, they can also plan some Ad-Free experience packs.
This is going to be one of the most unique way to enter the industry. Lets wait and see how it is getting executed and further plans of the company.
Remember, Money can only be equated with money. What say?
