1/ Leaked documents have shed new light on the relationship between the Russian Ministry of Defence and the Wagner Group. The MOD is reportedly blaming Wagner for a shortage of shells that may have contributed to Russia's recent disaster at Vuhledar. ⬇️
2/ The VChK-OGPU Telegram channel has published a set of logistics orders, likely leaked as part of the ongoing war of words between the Russian MOD and Wagner. The latter's head, Yevgeny Prigozhin, has recently been complaining about a "shell famine".
3/ According to VChK-OGPU, Wagner's supply of ammunition is carried out "solely on the basis of relevant written orders from the Chief of General Staff and Deputy Defence Minister for Logistics". The distribution channel is described as follows:
4/ "According to the documents, the ammunition was transferred to the balance of the 22nd Special Forces Brigade of the Main Directorate of the General Staff (military unit 11659) for subsequent transfer to…
5/ …the 78th Reconnaissance Center of the Main Directorate of the General Staff (military unit 35555), and was in fact immediately received by Wagner representatives for further use by the private military company."
6/ VChK-OGPU says that Wagner is being blamed for taking "not only the entire mobilisation resource from among the convict population, but also the ammunition resource and provided the shell hunger in the armed forces", which are said to be suffering across the entire front line.
7/ A source has told VChK-OGPU that "there was a catastrophic shortage of shells in the 155th Marine Brigade of the Pacific Fleet.
8/ In the absence of proper support, the marines perform tasks that are unusual for their purpose in the Vuhledar direction, at the cost of significant manpower losses".

1/ A faction within the Russian state seems to have gone down the traditional route of leaking a compromising video on an opponent, in this case showing Lieutenant General Alexander Matovnikov apparently performing a strip-tease for one of his girlfriends.
2/ The VChK-OGPU Telegram channel, to which the Wagner Group and the Russian military both seem to be leaking information, has published a video showing a dancing Matovnikov doing a 'sexy dance' which is possibly the least sexy thing ever.
3/ VChK-OGPU writes: "The video ... shows the deputy commander-in-chief of the Ground Forces, former presidential envoy Alexander Matovnikov, who is the senior officer of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in Belarus.

1/ Why are far-right 'influencers' suddenly claiming, against all evidence, that the Ukraine war is a fake? They can't really be that stupid, can they? Indeed, they're not – it's cynical manipulation, not stupidity. Here's what's going on.
2/ ⚠️ First, this is classic rage-farming: eliciting outrage to boost engagement and support. As @MollyJongFast has put it, it's "the product of a perfect storm of fuckery, an unholy mélange of algorithms and anxiety". They are baiting you to retweet and react angrily to them.
3/ Twitter's algorithms (and those of social media more generally) spread content if people are interacting with it. If you're retweeting it, you're boosting it to all of your followers, as well as to any random individuals who might come across it.

1/ The Russian military has a culture of institutional lying, from fake medical exercises to false battlefield reports. Russian bloggers have admitted that pervasive lying to mobilised soldiers is severely damaging their morale and undermining their willingness to fight. ⬇️
2/ I've previously discussed the issue of lying in the Russian military (see thread below). It appears to result from a deep-seated attitude that accepts deceit and fakery as normal operational practice, rather than a self-defeating form of corruption.
3/ In an interesting exchange between two Russian military bloggers on Telegram, Vladlen Tatarsky writes:

"Many people write about the problems of the mobilised, but delicately leave out one very sensitive issue: many mobilised people do not want to fight.

1/ Russian state-owned media is reported to have been banned from quoting critical statements by Wagner Group head Yevgeny Prigozhin. A black propaganda campaign is said to have been devised against him by the Russian government, with 'tubs of shit' ready to be deployed. ⬇️
2/ According to the independent Russian news outlet Verstka, state media companies "have been banned from quoting statements by Yevgeny Prigozhin, the founder of the Wagner PMC, unless they relate to neutral topics".
3/ Verstka notes: "RIA Novosti, TASS and Interfax news agencies have indeed stopped quoting statements by Prigozhin since January that do not relate directly to the activities of the Wagner PMC on the Ukrainian front."

1/ The Wagner Group's huge losses and lack of reserves are said to have left it incapable of defending the territory it has captured, presenting a severe risk if Ukraine launches a major counter-offensive. The situation is described as 'desperate'. ⬇️
2/ According to the Russian VChK-OGPU Telegram channel, a source likely linked to Wagner has spoken about the background to Yevgeny Prigozhin's recent candid interview on Wagner's shortage of shells and his publication of a photo of its recent casualties.
3/ "It's already desperate. There were hopes that the Ministry of Defence's debacle in Vuhledar would lead to a reaction by now. At the same time, Prigozhin, as it turned out, really managed to promise some kind of results from the PMC Wagner.

1/ Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of the Wagner Group, has given an interview to Russian milblogger Vladlen Tatarsky in which he explains why he thinks Wagner is experiencing severe 'shell hunger' in eastern Ukraine. It includes a lot of interesting details. A rough translation: ⬇️ Image
2/ PRIGOZHIN: Ammunition has not been given to us and is not being given to us. As of 10:20:02 February, no steps have been taken to issue ammunition. What is the problem? I'll explain.
3/ I am posting a picture below. This is one of the gathering places of the dead. These are the guys who died yesterday. Due to shelling and starvation so called. There should have been five times less. Five times. So. Mothers, wives and children will get their bodies. Image
