DAY 9 - LUZERN
We start the morning at breakfast reflecting on quotes from our great German figures debate last night. And we start to prepare for a walking tour designed by students! #MVEurope2023#MVInterim2023#MVInterim
Working together is a key mindset @ @TheMVSchool — Collaborator, Innovator, and Creative Thinker skills they learn on campus will help them with this activity designed by Emily. #MVInterim2023#MVEurope2023#MVInterim
Then a walk across the Death Bridge:
Spreuer Bridge - Death paintings to remind you of the stages of life and death. All the pleasures we will have on earth with end when death comes. Reminder to have a good life. #MVInterim#MVEurope2023#MVInterim2023
Next, a stop at Hirschplatz — learning about the complexity of whether or not Swiss banks were neutral post-World War II. #MVEurope2023#MVInterim2023#MVInterim
Here, we learn about the origins of the Swiss confederacy via poetry performance in front of the Cantons Building
“Once upon a time in 1231…” #MVInterim#MVInterim2023#MVEurope2023
To conclude the walking tour, Emily guided us through Kappelbrucke, the oldest covered bridge in the city of Lucerne. #MVEurope2023#MVInterim2023#MVInterim
And of course some people were sad when the ride broke down. But you know… mechanical engineering just wasn’t on our side today. #MVInterim#MVInterim2023#MVEurope2023
DAY 8 - Munich to Luzerne. With a stop at that one world famous castle! 🏰 But first some memories of last night since most of the students are sleeping because of our 6 AM wake-up call. 😴🥱
King Ludwig II, a very lonely king, sometimes considered crazy by his court, built Neuschwanstein Castle in honor of Wagner and his love of opera. Many believe it to be the inspiration of Cinderella’s castle in Disney World. #MVInterim2023#MVInterim#MVEurope2023
The walk up the hill to the castle was quite intense. Some of us passed to take in the view. Others ran! 🙃🏃♂️ #MVEurope2023#MVInterim#MVInterim2023
I think the pictures & memories from today will be quite different. Learning a lot of hard history. We are prepared, asking questions, & listening with open hearts & minds. #MVEurope2023#MVInterim2023#MVInterim
Morning wake up calls were done in person. today.
We started a VERY cold morning meeting Brigitte, our tour guide around Munich for an in-depth look at Bavarian history and the World Wars… all leading up to understand why we visit a place like Dachau Concentration Camp later today. #MVEurope2023#MVInterim2023#MVInterimtwitter.com/i/web/status/1…
The Greek square, one of the few outside of the country, is because of King Otto of Bavaria. The man behind the modern Olympics! We learned about how Munich is one of the few places to do in-depth Greek and Classic Studies. #MVInterim#MVInterim2023#MVEurope2023
More shots! I was told there was a good mural in the bathroom. We didn’t get to get too far into the museum because they were filming a movie there today. Nonetheless, the kids enjoyed the sights!
I’m told there are pictures of snow angels that I may be able to get from students.
Students, Anna and Reese, learning about medieval and post-Reformation torture with @Aschewe24. Heard: “Dr. Schewe, when can we take European History?”
DAY 4 - A second day in Vienna. Today’s itinerary includes a tour of Melk and off to Salzburg! In the morning outside the Danube River Cruise, the students loved the graffiti.
