Bryansk "attack" a 🧵

Videos are circulating of "troops" in the Bryansk villages of Sushany and Liubechane

Some digging found this picture of Denis “WhiteRex” Kapustin - who organized the RDK in Ukraine in August 2022, claiming to be in Bryansk

1/7
The RDK or Russian Volunteer Corps is not part of the Ukrainian military or part of the UKR Russian Legion (which is former Russian POWs fighting for Ukraine)

The Russian Legion is not affiliated with the Russian Imperial Legion (RIM) or the RUS BARS-13 Russia Legion

2/7
Denis “WhiteRex” Kapustin is an accelerationist, MMA fighter, and Neo-Nazi, who lost his residency permit in Germany in 2019 due to his activities, is (or was) wanted by the United States FBI, wanted in Russia, and was investigated for drug trafficking in Ukraine

3/7
According to Anti-Fascist Europe, the RDK has about 50 members

The flag they are holding is a design by World War II Nazi collaborator and Russian Liberation Army (ROA) officer Viktor Larionov

4/7

antifascist-europe.org/russia/russian…
The anti-Putin position of the RDK aligns with the Russia Imperial Movement (RIM), which wants to see Russia return to an ethnostate ruled not by Putin but by those with bloodlines to the Czars and the rules of the Russian Orthodox Church

5/7

malcontentment.com/washingtons-de…
Denis Kapustin's Telegram page is one wild rabbit hole where he simultaneously praises and condemns Igor Mangushev after he was executed

Agreeing with Neo-Nazi values but condemning him for fighting for Russia

(one example there is more)

6/7
Conclusion/Hot Take

The claims of raids in Bryansk seem somewhat legit

This appears to be some bizarre accelerationist attack. unaffiliated with Ukraine's government

The RDK is the brainchild of Kapustin and has approx 50 members

The same number of attackers in Bryansk

A 🧵The IAEA released an update on the situation at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which seems to have fallen off the collective radar

TL;DR - not great - not terrible - but increasing concerns

1/10
A 🧵Situation at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant

On 15DEC22 Russian occupiers closed the "road of life" between Vasylivka and Kamyanske

The last rotation for the IAEA happened on 13JAN23

Russians launched an offensive on Kamyanske on 22JAN23

A 🧵Situation at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant

The current group of IAEA inspectors was supposed to rotate in February, but that did not happen. Russian and Ukraine are trading accusations, and the IAEA is trying to remain neutral

A 🧵

Watched an older Spanish documentary about submarine warfare in World War II

History doesn't repeat, but it rhymes

In 1939, the US established a 200 to 300-nautical mile North American neutrality zone after Germany invaded Poland

1/14
May 1940 Dunkirk

Jul 1940 Battle of Britain starts

Sep 1940 US gave Britain 50 obsolete destroyers to fight German subs and got 99-year leases in the Caribbean/Atlantic

The WW1 destroyers were in deplorable condition, and initially, only 30 could be brought into service

2/14
There was significant opposition from politicians and pundits

Isolationists didn't want to make Hitler mad, drag the US into WW2 & called the invasion of Poland a "phoney war"

Despite bellicose statements from Berlin, Hitler decided it wasn't a red line

Exactly this

A 🧵about what we're being told about the situation in Bakhmut by people who are in Bakhmut without violating OPSEC - absolutely NOT directed at @AndrewPerpetua, who is doing tremendous work

On 05DEC22, after a report that General Sergey Surovikin was destroyed in a video meeting with President Putin after the drone strikes on Russian airbases, including one just 100 km from Moscow, we assessed Surovikin would go "all-in" somewhere, he needs a W

2/
On 08DEC22 we reported our assessment about Surovikin was correct - and that Russia was going all in at Soledar-Bakhmut employing the same strategy as General Lapin at Severodoentsk, a head-on attack on Ukrainian strongholds at all costs

A 🧵on Putin's grip on Russia slipping and why you should be watching Kadyrov and Prigozhin - carefully

For those not paying attention to the Kremlin chessboard, there is a lot of positioning going on between Kadyrov vs Shoigu and Prigozhin vs Putin

1/23
Kadyrov and Prigozhin going after Col. General Alexander Lapin was likely a coordinated effort

Lapin's strategy led to the capture of the Luhansk Oblast in July, and was awarded the honor of Hero of Russia by Putin on July 3; he wasn't a scrub

2/23
Kadyrov called Lapin "talentless" and falsely accused him of cowardice by not being present during the Ukrainian counteroffensive from Izyum through Lyman

Kadyrov has not personally led any military action in Ukraine, from Ukraine at any point of the war

A 🧵 on software development and what will go wrong if Elon Musk clears the engineering house

Twitter was founded in 2006, which means its code base is 16 years old, which means somewhere, there is a Milton Waddams who knows the ins and outs of the bowels of the code

1/7
During my corporate life, I worked for software companies and PC manufacturers in their software organizations

The "hey, you can't delete that old code because" isn't written down - I don't know any company that writes it all down, it's in the brains of devs

2/7
When those devs leave, or someone decides their too old, too burned out, too slow, or too highly paid and fires them/layoff, or they decide they're under-appreciated and take that knowledge with them, hilarity ensues when new blood edits old code but not for the end users

The Russian Ministry of Defense uses "photo reports" for battle information on the field

1) Borova is still under Russian control - sort of

What are photo reports, and what purpose do they serve

🔽
Pictures or it didn't happen

Sometimes the Russian MOD will make an arbitrary decision, you must hold this town no matter what, or you must reach this point by this date/time, or else

When it isn't achievable, field commanders make fake photo reports

🔽
They will send in a squad into an area to take a picture or video, even when dangerous

During the lead-up to the capture of Severodonetsk, Popasna was "captured" with pictures and vids, sometimes multiple times a day starting on March 12

This video screams "picture report"
