Little too rambling & crafted at times but #Gulmohar spoke many truths about home, family, becoming, being, belonging & the honesty as well as hypocrisy underlying relationships. What we are born into & what we choose, ties we inherit & those we pick up in personal journeys (1)
Loved the simple depth of its lines that resonated with me perhaps because the tenuousness of the idea of home and the speciousness and ambiguities in inherited relationships and so-called family has been a big life lesson I squared up to during COVID…
However, props specially to the luminous Simran & the wonderfully at ease Suraj Sharma, the terrific ensemble as #Gulmohar staff—Santhy, Gandharv Dewan, Tripti Sahu, Abhinav Bhattacharjee, Chandan Roy who I had written about at the time of Panchayat (4) …
And in the lingo of Hindi cinema “above all” Jatin Goswami who had made bad feel so good in the radically different turn in The Great Indian Murder. And the most spectacular Anuraag Arora who has been rocking it since Oye Lucky Lucky Oye. Rather I noticed him there the first time
Couldn’t attend #Gulmohar screening. Was out of town. But wish @DisneyPlusHS had been a little more generous & easy with the preview screeners. One would have found time to write something more in depth than a tweet thread…
One last point, when your film’s strength is a strong ensemble, please credit them all @ IMDb or ensure we get cast & crew details. Today I tried pausing at end credits to write down the names of some actors I hadn’t seen earlier but each time the algorithm took me to next show

I too have one SRK story. The special one of the many...
Nobody may want to listen but am gonna tell phir bhi... #SRKStory
So its his Eid party at Taj Lands End Bandra for the journalists where he first gives the sound bytes to the several thousands of flashing still and video cameras and then comes to our room and sits on each of our tables, one by one... #SRKStory continues ...
What I’ve learnt in the last 18 months (actually several years) of the churn in my own life & of those around me. Only a handful of people matter, those who truly stand by you. Hold them dear. Most relish the downward spiral in lives of others. Sweep them away #MaaNamratanandMayi
Majority is of those who empathise with you for a while & then move on to fight their own battles, big or small. Like you would do vis-a-vis others. Do not judge them coz in doing so you would be judging yourself #MaaNamratanandMayi
So #MaaNamratanandMayi ka ultimate gyaan is: Don’t look for endorsement/validation from others. Live for yourself. Stay relevant for & compete with yourself. Be happy for yourself. Don’t count likes, RTs, followers, “virality” (whatever the heck that is, not virility mind you)...
Sutapa Sikdar’s statement on Irrfan is so beautiful. It makes you hope through the loss...
And I quote...
“How can I write this as a family statement when the whole world is taking it as a personal loss? How can I begin to feel alone when millions are grieving with us at the moment? I want to assure everyone that this is not a loss, it is a gain... 1/n
“I want to assure everyone that this is not a loss, it is a gain. It’s a gain of the things he taught us, and now we shall finally begin to truly implement it and evolve. Yet I want to try to fill in the things that people don’t already know. .. 2/n
The real thing to look at is not why X film is there and why Y ain’t. Real issue is the prohibitive fee that producers have to pay for staking a claim at being official Oscar entry for India (Rs 70000 + 18% tax)... Many may not consider it worth it...
Even if they were to get selected there is more money needed for marketing and pitching the film to the academy members ...
And then the insane competition in what #IMHO is the most exciting Oscar category
