1. Economy is embedded in physical & social realities; Cannot be analyzed on its own. The industrial economy is entropic. 2. Ecological values -livelihood, sacredness, relevance to future generations-cannot be translated into money 3. Trade has been "ecologically unequal exchange”
We hear loads about "financialized" economy. And weightless economy of Tech giants & services in GDP & ppl in cities.

Enlightenment thinkers thought "Natural scarcity was just another kind of arbitrary authority, another palace to be stormed". Can we still have abundance & autonomy? @picharbonnier book on political ecology reviewed in @LRBlrb.co.uk/the-paper/v45/…
Each of these globalization networks - Cotton, Cars, Chips, Carbon - were thrown into chaos with Covid crisis. Millions of workers thrown out of work as consumption patterns changed.

oddly little reporting on the G20 foreign ministers summit in delhi?? especially given how fractious it sounds bbc.com/news/world-asi…
"Many developing countries are struggling with unsustainable debts while trying to ensure food and energy security," he said.
"They are also most affected by global warming caused by richer countries."
"The foreign ministers gathering came days after G-20 finance chiefs and central bankers failed to agree on a joint communique in Bengaluru, as China supported Russia in opposing the inclusion of paragraphs about the war." asia.nikkei.com/Politics/Inter…
It is good news that Kashmir has discovered some lithium resources. But lets not exaggerate the possibilities of actially producing. It takes more than a few years to develop a mine and India will continue to import batteries for next decade plus to meet its voracious EV demand.
"Indian geologists, in a report of 1999, had pointed out the possibility of lithium's presence in Jammu's Reasi district" telegraphindia.com/india/indian-g…
But 5.9 MT of Li resources! Ok. Point is that it takes a long time to go from resources to (economically viable) reserves.
And lots of political risks (if in volatile places). Look at how much lithium resources Bolivia has and how little it has produced.
China's cement not coal dominates politics of climate change.
Planetary stability depends on whether or not the "debt-fueled, deficit-exploding, inequality-stretching... concrete expansion" can be reined in. Read @jerometenk's phenomenalworld.org/analysis/the-c…
Nothing in China can be understood without the forced-pace urbanization of 21stC. A nexus of credit-boom housing as families accumulated private assets off the public land that local party elites flogged off.
"Real estate, which constitutes a quarter of China’s GDP, has become a $52 trillion bubble that fundamentally rests on the...belief that it is too big to fail. The reality is that it has become too big to sustain, either economically or environmentally. " phenomenalworld.org/analysis/the-c…
