Got an opportunity to visit "Ruins Singri Hills" (#ViswakarmaTemple) and #GupteshwarMandir at Singri, Sonitpur, #Assam.

Thousands of ruined remains appear to be of an ancient temple dated back to 10-12th century CE (as per some studies).

The architectural members include mainly door frame, pillars, ceiling pieces, carved & chiseled stones, figures of Shiva & Vishnu, sculptures lions, female figures in standing posture holding lotuses, carved stones figures of gandharbhas, dancing damsels, amorous scenes etc.

The site is owned by Archeological Survey of India (#ASI)
According to folklore- Lord Vishwakarma built his own house when King Bana (Banasur) of Sonitpur asked him to settle and build a #ShivTemple in a hill range of Singri (Town in a bank of Brahmaputra). Destroyer unknown.

Singri Gupteswar Temple is a prehistoric temple of #LordShiva. It is believed that the temple was constructed by King Bana (Banasur) of #Sonitpur. King was the great devotee of lord shiva, son of Mahabali and grandson of Praladha (according to Purans).

Temple was built by curving a single stone by lord Viswakarma in Satyayuga.

It is also said that a cow of Sankardeva's father Kushumbar Bhuyan used to give milk in this temple to worship Lord Shiva for a son, who was named after the Lord as Sankara later.
