Did you know that at least half of the state legislators in Nevada and Colorado are women?

On this #InternationalWomensDay, let’s take a look at some more fun facts about the women legislators who are breaking barriers across the country 🧵
Right now, nearly a third of state legislators nationwide are women – a record high!

When women are serving in seats of power, issues like reproductive rights, child care needs, and paid family leave get more of a voice at the decision table.
Nearly two-thirds of women state legislators are Democrats.

We're proud to be the party that's helped elect more women leaders than ever before!
There is still so much progress to be made when it comes to achieving gender equity in state legislatures. But make no mistake: By fighting for a seat at the table, women legislators are changing the face of politics for the better.

It was a busy day in Michigan’s new blue Democratic legislature yesterday! After decades of Republicans blocking common sense solutions, Dems have made progress on strengthening unions, gun safety, abortion, and LGBTQ rights. 🧵
Yesterday, Michigan Senate Democrats repealed the state’s archaic and unpopular 1931 abortion ban. The House already voted to repeal it last week, and it now heads to Governor Whitmer for final approval.
In the Michigan House, Democrats started passing a package of gun safety legislation, including universal background checks. Other measures like red flag laws and safe storage requirements are also making their way through the legislature.

Donald Trump endorsed 11 Michigan state legislative candidates, including Rep. Matt Maddock who was in DC on January 6 and is pushing to lead the GOP caucus after this election. Maddock was also involved with the state’s fake electors plot.

NEW: After relaunching our GOP Hall of Shame last week – featuring over 1,000 state legislators and candidates who aided and abetted Trump’s coup – we received a surge of tips.

Now, we're adding another 50+ Republicans who are threatening our democracy to our database:🧵
Two of the newly included GOP state legislative candidates – John Lyddy of Vermont and David Estenson of Wisconsin – were in DC on January 6. That brings the total number of insurrectionist candidates on the ballot this November up to 18.
14 of the new candidates hail from Arizona, which means over HALF of GOP candidates in AZ are threats to democracy. That includes Liz Harris, who claimed there were hundreds of thousands of illegal votes in 2020, & Christian Lamar, who’s running to decertify AZ’s 2020 electors.
