EXCLUSIVE POLL: Kate Forbes is in the lead as the public’s choice to replace Nicola Sturgeon as first minister of Scotland - with Humza Yousaf and Forbes neck-and-neck among SNP voters.
The exclusive polling data from @IpsosScotland finds that Forbes has an 8-point lead over Yousaf among the general public, although overall ratings are lukewarm.
One in three say either that none of the candidates would make the best First Minister, or that they don’t know.
The race is too close to call between Yousaf and Forbes when looking at the views of SNP voters from the last Scottish Parliament election.
33% say that Humza Yousaf would make the best First Minister while 32% say the same of Kate Forbes. Ash Regan takes third place with 10%.

Ten officers and staff from England's second largest police force are under investigation over allegedly derogatory and offensive material shared on social media.
Tonight Channel 4 News reveals serious concerns about the conduct of police officers in the West Midlands - including a member of its elite firearms unit facing a criminal investigation over allegations of sexual misconduct.
A West Midlands Police spokesperson said there is “no place in policing for misogynistic, discriminatory or disrespectful behaviour” - and they’re working hard to ensure predatory individuals are rooted out of the force.

One man says he has asthma and has coughed up blood.

A woman, who asked to remain anonymous, living on the Freehold estate run by Rochdale Boroughwide Housing, tells @clarefallon she’s been living with mould for months.
@clarefallon RBH, who rented out the mould-ridden flat to Awaab’s family, has come under increased scrutiny since a coroner ruled that mould caused the toddler’s death in 2020.
RBH say they “have worked hard over the last two years to make a number of changes”.
“Your own mental health becomes absolutely rock bottom - but we had to keep going.”
Parents of sexually abused children say too often they are not getting enough support.
Cath Pickles, whose daughter Sarah was abused, has set up a charity in a bid to change that.
“We built a service we wished we received.”
Cath’s charity Restitute, which helps parents and carers supporting sexual abuse survivors, received £300,000 of funding from the Home Office to expand it across the country.
Cath and Sarah have waived their right to anonymity.
The Home Office told Channel 4 News that it had recently granted £4.5 million to charities “that provide vital support to victims and survivors of child sexual abuse” - this is said to include funding for the parents and carers of victims.
Exclusive: Conservative MP Conor Burns was the subject of a sexual harassment complaint five years before he was sacked as a minister for alleged inappropriate behaviour at the Tory Party Conference, Channel 4 News can reveal.
Mr. Burns strenuously denies these allegations.
Mr Burns vigorously denies the 2017 allegations saying that they are “without merit” and were withdrawn “almost immediately” before an investigation even took place.
He told us the complaint was never put to him and that it was made by a “bad faith actor motivated by malice”.
The 2017 claim is separate from the alleged incident at a hotel bar in Birmingham at the conference earlier this month that led to him being sacked as the trade minister.
The NHS is facing a shortage of drugs, including anti-depressants and penicillin.
The number of drugs in short supply has risen by 200% in the last 12 months to 152, according to figures seen by Channel 4 News.
Data shared with Channel 4 News estimates the NHS has spent nearly £136m more than it normally would in the last 12 months, with more than £107m of that amount being spent since April 2022.
