Again, yes, the timing is a bit awkward but this has been such a long time coming and I've been planning for this release for such a long time.
I understand that some people might think this was all planned. It sure looks like that.
But I'm honestly just not that clever. I wish I was.
When I tweeted about something else earlier this week I didn't expect it to escalate in the way that it did.
But as I said in a tweet yesterday, I’m not going to get stuck in that other thing.
So yea, I know people won't buy that story but I just wanted to tell you anyway.
But back to the music. The song is called Almost Over You and it's from an album coming out this years called The Radio Won’t Let Me Sleep.
The song is about finding a way out of the darkness after a long night. It’s a song of hope and a potential for a brighter future.
At least that's what it was supposed to be about.
The video was recorded in Qeshm, a small island off the coast of Iran at the same time as the country’s women were protesting for their rights all over the country. It was directed by Iranian artist Ali Asgari with an all local cast and crew.
I chose the stage name Önnu Jónu Son. Which means the son of Anna Jóna, my mom who died when I was young.
By wearing my mothers name I was able to use her memory, love, support and nurture as protection from any self doubt or fear of external criticism.
But believe me, there is still a lot of self doubt and fear.
I know a lot of people won't like the music or the video. Especially now because of other things that happened recently.
But I decided some time ago that I don’t want to live my life in fear.
This year I will release the album.
Half of the songs are written in the mid 90s and the other half in the past year.
Each of the 11 songs will be released with new short movies made by directors and artists from from all over the world.
The songs are personal stories of love, loss, loneliness and a struggle to find moments of happiness.
Some of the newer songs are written about my experience dealing with muscular dystrophy and the experience of having a body that keeps failing me.
Something like this doesn’t just happen. I wrote the songs/lyrics and sing but the reason it actually sounds good is because of the amazing team that worked on it. They took my bad ideas and made them great.
It’s a long list but I especially want to call out the wonderful Siggi.
Lastly I want to mention how happy I was that the Smekkleysa label wanted to release it with me.
Smekkleysa was founded by Björk and her colleagues in the Sugarcubes and they’ve released some of my favourite artists.
Anyway, I guess that's it.
It's out now, check it on your streaming music service is you are interested. It’s on Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal and I’m sure some others.
I'm sorry or you're welcome.
Oh, and yea, this is quite literally please subscribe to my Soundcloud moment.

Ok. I’m announcing something tomorrow. And it has nothing to do with anything that’s happened in the last few days.
But it’s something that I’ve been working on for a long time and I’m proud of but also shy about.
Anyway, just wanted to warn you incase you want to unfollow.
Being the main character on Twitter is interesting but it also means I now have a lot of followers that know me from this one thing that happened in my life.
But that one thing is not really what I want my life to be about. And it’s not really that interesting.
So, just be warned that the one thing is not the thing I’m planning to talk about all the time.
There are so many other fun things and life is way too short to spend it in negativity.
Ok, following long threaded back and forth replies on Twitter is a bit complicated, so let me give you the highlights.
After no straight answers on my employment status for 9 days I asked @elonmusk to tell me if I had been laid off.
He sort of replied...
He asked me what I had been working on. When I told him he laughed.
Which, to be fair, I get. I am quite funny.
Then all of the sudden, Twitter's head of HR, (who had previously twice been unable to tell me if I had a job or not) emailed and said I was no longer employed.
Which is totally ok and it happens all the time. Companies let people go, that's within their rights.
They usually tell people about it but that's seemingly the optional part at Twitter now.
@elonmusk Among others:
- led the effort to save about $500k on one SaaS contract. Supported closing down many others
- led prioritization of design projects across the company to make sure we were able to deliver with a small team
@elonmusk - led design crits to help level up design across the company
- was hiring manager for all design roles
- worked on efforts to steer the company away from focusing on power users and on to younger users (because our user base is aging)
We've put together a Corona/Covid-19 response for Ueno.
