well you chose to go on tv and speak on a community you aren't a part of & pushed a false narrative. it's not unreasonable to expect them to respond with upset, no? @OfficialSampson
i sincerely don't wish you any physical harm or danger, & i hope no one has threatened you or made you feel unsafe @OfficialSampson but the discomfort you're feeling isn't bc of pronouns. you're experiencing pushback bc you equated trans folks being misgendered w "scary"
as i said earlier, i can only imagine your mentions are full of all sorts of responses that are rightfully giving you pause. my hope is that you can see that the upset you're hearing is coming from a genuine place of fear, hurt & concern. sometimes we need to hear anger to learn
FYI "false narrative" meaning, even if that ONE person responded to being misgendered in that way, they do not represent all trans folks nor is that response the norm. @OfficialSampson feeling embarrassment or annoyance is not equal to the DANGER trans navigate just for exisitng
if you're genuinely "scared" of getting someone's pronouns incorrect there's 2 easy solutions.
1. ask! or 2. default to neutral greetings. no need to call a stranger sir or ma'am, just say "excuse me" & go about your day! @OfficialSampson
@OfficialSampson i'm going offline now but happy to continue this convo with you offline if you're open to it? twitter isn't great for these convos & considering we don't know each other i don't want this to come off like i'm punching down on you. i'm sincerely not. lemme know, my DMs are open!

they absolutely go hand in hand. Remember how bigots were quick to call Michelle Obama, Serena Williams & Leslie Jones men? Ask yourself why. Bc white supremacy, transphobia, misogyny etc do not exist in a vacuum
the rampant transphobia is making me nervous not only bc it’s hurting people I care about but bc it signals a growing tide of bigotry that’s going to effect marginalized people of ALL backgrounds. you’re not going to protect yourself by aligning w bigots. You’re really not.
as a queer Black woman from FL, it is terrifying watching DeSantis & his cronies make life harder for queer folks, women & femmes in my home state. Make no mistake DeSantis is using FL as a testing ground for his future presidency.
*sigh* what's scary is calls from the right to "eradicate transgenderism" what's scary is parents being threatened with having their children taken away for seeking gender affirm care. what's scary is "trans panic" used as a legal defense in crimes against the trans community
pronouns are not "scary." while i question the truthfulness of @OfficialSampson's story, a stranger being offended bc they were misgendered is maybe...embarrassing, but their offense isn't taking away your rights nor a threat to your livelihood or happiness.
i know lots of folks are piling on, but i hope you're able to sift through the replies and understand the issue with equating danger to respecting or understanding someone's pronouns. it's a baseless comparison and worse it's dangerous and yes, transphobic.
