The mindless devotion to extreme political cults on Twitter is a grave threat to critical thinking and genuine discourse

Blind adherence to any ideology is an affront to the pursuit of truth and reason
The danger of seeing the world as either black or white is the temptation to ignore the infinite shades of grey that lie in between

This simplistic thinking leads to the demonization of those who hold different views, hindering dialogue and progress

Embrace nuance, reject… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
It's disappointing to see so many public intellectuals forsaking their responsibility to uphold the values of critical thinking and intellectual honesty

It is disheartening to witness their intellectual bankruptcy and moral cowardice as they bow to the whims of social media
The phenomenon of social media narratives driving critical thinking, rather than the other way around, is a dangerous reversal of priorities

The echo chambers of online discourse breed ignorance, dogmatism, and intellectual cowardice

But as much as we can blame intellectuals...
The responsibility to seek out diverse perspectives and challenge one's own beliefs falls upon the individual, not the algorithm

The seductive power of the algorithm is a siren's call that must be resisted by those committed to the pursuit of knowledge and truth
It is a seductive force that lulls you into complacency and reinforces your biases

Be vigilant, seek out diverse perspectives, challenge your assumptions

The algorithm must be tamed, not the intellect

If everyone you follow thinks the same, you're in the siren's grasp

End

Hey @GregAbbott_TX, remember when the top UT-Austin administration got caught directly funding Kendi/DiAngelo based critical race theory for 4 year olds:
mindingthecampus.org/2021/11/17/gok…
Even Fox News picked it up, and Lieutenant Governor @danpatrick called out the university.

foxnews.com/politics/ut-au…
But all they did was pause the program for a week or two, and then it went ahead, using state money!

Can’t say nobody knew about this

Thread: The anti-Ivermectin position strikes me as being somewhat contrarian and driven by partisanship over logic

I wouldn't argue that Ivm is proven to work, but I don't think you can definitively say it doesn't work...there are studies, including RCTs, that say it does

1
Many probably know this site...it's run by retired commercial research scientists with resumes of published works in reputable journals like Nature

You don't need to agree with their meta analysis, but you can't deny that some studies say that it works

At most you can say that Ivermectin has not been proven to work

But so what?

Were masks definitively proven to work before they were mandated?

Any real world evidence that lock-downs would be a net benefit for society?

So you have to question why this is an issue

Just listened to @mtaibbi on @joerogan…great episode

They predict independent journalists overtake MSM with platforms like substack

Problem I see: they’re still beholden to their audience (clicks, subs, etc)…reasonable/nuanced content…meh

Majority want stuff they agree with
The issue is incentive structure

Now that the media is not trusted, people gravitate towards those that give them what they want in terms of content

Not necessarily those that give a full and honest picture of the news

Not sure it’s a better system…

Case in point:
Another thing I caught from @mtaibbi is that via substack he has to crank out content which is different from before when he could spend weeks or months on a story

So the result will be more stories but more opinion and less journalism…less investigation, lower quality of info

🧵Thread: Don’t Sleep on them Institutions🚨

A fundamental myth of American conservatism has been that there are long-surviving institutions that support our society and which warrant respect/deference from everyone

Well that bubble has certainly been popped😉

1
Conservatives now are reacting with anger and disgust as more and more institutions have been captured by the far left

What's resulted is these institutions being twisted to promote their novel and extreme view of what society should be

Their views:

2
The response in many cases is to seek to abandon the institutions

Skip college, home-school, etc or to replace them with new versions where we will go and actually follow the rules (ex: UATX)

This can definitely be part of the solution, but it can't be the entire solution
