The phrase “slimmed-down monarchy” is growing more and more irksome. The #britishroyalfamily has about a dozen palaces and vast wealth that other European monarchies don’t come close to. #KingCharlesTheCruel wanting a “slimmed-down monarchy” does NOT mean a few of those 1/
palatial residences are getting sold off and turned into museums like the Palace of Versailles—fwi France takes in WAY more royalty-related tourism dollars than Britain does. “Slimmed-down” in this case means concentrating titles/wealth privileges among an even smaller group 2/
of (white) people! FFS HOW DO PEOPLE NOT SEE THIS FOR WHAT IT IS?!
Thank God #GoodKingHarry and #PrincessMeghan called their bluff in the Oprah interview about #PrinceArchie having a title—the Palace was going to let the world falsely believe that the Sussexes CHOSE it! 3/
Now the truth is known, this raises a lots of questions about minor royals who “chose” not to give their children titles. They lied about #PrinceArchie, so we can no longer take at face value that, for instance, Princess Anne and #PrinceEdward (the new #DukeofEdinburgh, yay!) 4/
chose of their own free will for their children “so they could have more normal lives.” (This is the standard rationale used when royal grandchildren, rather than automatically being Prince or Princess as dictated by the letters patent, or either not given titles at all or 5/
given downgraded titles, as Prince Edward’s children were). By contrast, Charlotte and Louis were given upgrades—at the time of their birth they were NOT grandchildren of the monarch, nor in direct line of the throne—yet they were at birth titled Princess and Prince. While 6/
Archie and Lilibet were not even given downgraded aristocratic titles. The gall.
On an interesting note, Lady (not Princess! 🙄) Louise, Prince Edward’s daughter, is expected to “decide” upon her 18th birthday whether or not she will be styled HRH. I hope she does. We can 7/
surmise there’s a fairly good chance she’s being pressured NOT to “choose” it.
Lord how the mighty have fallen. And I didn’t even realize the full extent of it until the last few days…
There’s an extensive YouTube channel called Real Royalty, and occasionally I watch their videos, since along with being a lifelong royal watcher and Sussex supporter, I 1/
also have a keen interest in royal history, particularly the Tudor period. This channel has tons of videos covering the whole spectrum of royal history—however, their “documentaries” on the current day crop of British royals reveals that the channel is unabashedly pro-royalist—2/
we’re talking excessive heir vs. spare propaganda, positive coverage of Camilla to rehabilitate her image, saying Diana was kind of a whack job/unstable,etc.
But what I saw in the last few videos have shocked me. I know, it shouldn’t have. But the blatant shamelessness was 3/
