Hannah from Yeovil called LBC and read aloud part of Suella Braverman’s “invasion” speech from Hansard. The word “migrant” was removed, and the word “Jew” substituted. As Hannah says, I defy you to say the language is not similar to 1930s Germany. #GaryLinekertwitter.com/i/web/status/1…
For the avoidance of doubt: I am not (and neither is Hannah) trivialising the Holocaust. I abhor Anti-Semitism. The point here is dehumanising language. In 1930s Germany, many vulnerable minority groups were dehumanised and othered. It made their later persecution easier.
Your reminder that it was a Holocaust survivor who called Suella Braverman out for her dehumanising language before this entire Gary Lineker furore.
Tomorrow is when Twitter will start the pay for blue tick nonsense. This means malicious users can pay to pretend to be other people. It will also mean the algorithms will be changed so that your friends and mutuals will have their tweets deprioritised. What to do?
I'm supposing they will not remove Twitter lists. Create lists. One for people whose tweets you enjoy. Another for friends and mutuals you don't want to lose in the chaos. Consider making lists for sources of credible news and information you want to see.
Even if you're thinking of leaving, make these lists before it becomes difficult to know who is real and who paid for verified status. If you lock or mothball your account, those lists will be here for later. Here's how to make a list: help.twitter.com/en/using-twitt…
About to make a Turkish style courgette and yoghurt dip to have with super delicious Turkish bread. So here is one white courgette, one carrot, and half an onion, all peeled.
I employed old fashioned elbow grease and grated them all.
After heating up 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a frying pan, I fried the grated veggies for 15 minutes on a medium heat, keeping it moving to saute and soften rather than brown.
Time for a thread. Let's have a look how the Conservative/right wing commentators are now backpedalling furiously. We begin with Darren Grimes. He confidently declared on GB News that Prince Charles was a 'clown prince' rather than the Crown Prince.
This was tweeted, seemingly with approval, by GB News in July this year.
Darren Grimes has performed quite the volte face from his 'clown prince' comments. His backing for the new King is something he's been most keen to express on Twitter.
It's so difficult being a so-called "journalist" who is really just a pro-Conservative political commentator. You feel the need to demand the presence of an unwell 96 year old woman for political purposes. Then days later you realise that same woman is all too mortal. For shame.
Please don't respond with nasty snark. Firstly, the passing of any person should be marked with either sympathy, respect or silence. Secondly, snark and negativity will not serve you well - you may find yourself receiving a terrible backlash. Be mindful. Be careful.
Please note that anyone who replies to this thread on the occasion of the passing of the Queen seeking to make any form unpleasant comments will be blocked, and if necessary reported. Please either grieve or express your views elsewhere.
Exhibit 67: #MourningGate
BBC News' on screen caption omits mention of Meghan who is clearly pictured also viewing the floral tributes at Windsor. Rebecca English (Daily Mail) tweeted and deleted a false claim Harry and Meghan did not meet the public. Mistake or deliberate?
Exhibit 68: #HoldingHandsGate
The Express decides to consider how appropriate it was for Harry and Meghan to hold hands at yesterday's ceremony for the late Queen Elizabeth II. At no point did they look at the other members of the royal family at the same event.
