I generally ignore news about cisgender white celebrities which is why it has taken me this long to read about #GaryLineker. As the child of 2 immigrants and the granddaughter of a German Jew who escaped the Nazis in his youth, I believe I'm entitled to an opinion here.
So here it goes. I don't give a fuck about Gary Linekar. I do, however, care about @SuellaBraverman, whose right wing and often times fascist opinions are endangering this country. In case you didn't know Suella is the daughter of 2 immigrants. One parent is Indian Kenyan
In other words an Asian immigrant who benefited from the British colonisation of Africa before moving to the UK when Kenyans were given the right to rule their own country. Suella started out in a humble home but worked hard and got to Cambridge. And now look at her.
With the #GaryLineker row the focus has been drawn away from the government's illegal migration bill and even, ironically, their rhetoric around it.
To return to the original story, Suella Braverman's numbers on asylum seekers don't add up.

Last week upon unveiling new plans to allegedly deter people from crossing the Channel in small boats, Suella Braverman claimed that *100 million* people could already be on their way to seek asylum in the UK.

The weirdest thing about the whole #GaryLineker and #bbc malarky is that folk are shocked that the beeb is biased. Ofcourse it's biased. Always has been.

We're sold this vision of it being some positive holistic Britishness. The One Show spewinh royalist propoganda as Countryfile does the same for Tory farmers. It's comedy, while skirting with the odd bit of self deprication is overwhelming classist. You are the joke. 2/
It's a controller of the instrument and much like the Labour Party and NHS, people confuse what it could be, what it should be, with what it is.

Language matters.
For the avoidance of doubt: I am not (and neither is Hannah) trivialising the Holocaust. I abhor Anti-Semitism. The point here is dehumanising language. In 1930s Germany, many vulnerable minority groups were dehumanised and othered. It made their later persecution easier.
While all this focus is on @GaryLineker, he gets criticised a lot for tweeting about this because he understands that most people don’t understand the magnitude of what we are facing in our kids lifetimes and maybe our own. Worth watching. A thread #MOTD #MOTDboycott #football

I wonder - speculating - if they'll regret this. A bit like Brexit: getting everything they want isn't what they want.
Suspending #GaryLineker just politicises the audience of one of the UKs most popular people. And making people aware of politics doesn't help the Tories.

Sure, there will be people who want Linaker gone, and people who don't. But in the middle, a huge group not really paying attention to politics, who suddenly have to choose between a much-loved, highly likeable footballing hero, and Suella Braverman, aka Joseph Gerbils.
And the BBC may be making a mistake too. Linaker is very rich, and could waltz into the same job on any channel for 2x the pay. To coin a phrase, they need him more than he needs them.
