- Last year, SXSW was overtaken by crypto & the metaverse. This year, it’s generative AI. In one of the most anticipated sessions of the week, OpenAI cofounder Greg Brockman took the stage to squash concerns around misinformation & sentience.
🧵
Brockman did little to address the anxiety surrounding AI instead focusing on optimism. While Brockman is limited in what he can say especially at a large-scale forum like SXSW, his session left me with more questions than answers.
It may not have been on the agenda, but #svb just became one of the central focuses. I’ve overheard it discussed in the lines for sessions, at Starbucks & there are reports of tech founders checking their wire transfers on stage. So, whose going to spin up a dedicated SVB panel?
SXSW has become a launching pad for tech developments and this year Disney won the room with the reveal of a wobbly robot & teeny Tinker Bell. As Disney Parks‘ Josh D’Amaro shared, the juggernaut is doubling down on new storytelling formats to create emotional connections.
What stood out to me was the incredible care that Disney puts into every detail of their brand experience. From their curated menus mirroring movies to the introduction of robotics and exoskeleton costumes that give characters more realistic movement.
And it wouldn’t be SXSW without incredible brand experiences. Roku City and Showtime’s Yellowjackets pop up did not disappoint. twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
