EXCL: The BBC Director General Tim Davie has apologised for the disruption caused across sports programming after removing @GaryLineker off air.

I put to him trust is a key value of the BBC, many don’t trust him - but he says he is not resigning.

Follow our BBC live page as DG #TimDavie says “today is a difficult day.”

#GaryLineker
The DG did NOT see any of my questions. Some inc:

What if Gary supported UK govt policy on migrants - that would be an opinion - would he have been taken off air?

What about BBC Chairman Richard Sharpe M? Why’s he in a job? He’s accused of facilitating a loan for Boris Johnson
Why was Gary allowed to criticise the Qatar govt on BBC? What was different this time? Because he attacked the Uk govt?

Did UK govt, Tory party - which you were once an official for - and right wing media put pressure on you?

Full interview playing on @BBCNews
I was granted only a few minutes with the DG to ask questions. This is the full interview:

To those who accuse me of being a BBC stooge… (other cliche insults are widely available in my mentions)…I spoke to @LukwesaBurak about my interview and doing my job.
In terms of why me and why in DC? Tim Davie happened to be in DC when the story broke and I am a North America Correspondent based here.

Update: El Shafee Elsheikh trial.

Defense + Prosecution finished opening statements.

Defense says Elsheikh wasn’t part of the Beatles.

But was a “simple fighter”for IS going to Syria alone to help “suffering Muslims.”

And not legally responsible for deaths of hostages.
Defense admits this is a horrific case, and the jurors “may find it hard to keep an open mind.”

But “evidence will show there’ll be inconsistency in identification of Elsheikh” - he had been fully masked when around hostages.
Prosecution says their evidence will show that Elsheikh was close friends with other “Beatles” members: Emwazi and Koteh.

And knowingly was involved in the hostage taking scheme.

A member of the notorious ISIS 'Beatles' terror group starts his trial today in Virginia.

UK-raised El Shafee Elsheikh is the only prominent member of the Islamic State Group to face prosecution in the USA.
The 33-yo and three other men were dubbed the 'Beatles' by their captives due to their British accents.

Elsheikh is charged w. having a role in torturing + killing 4 Americans - Kayla Mueller, James Foley, Peter Kassig and Steven Sotloff.
Elsheikh doesn't deny he was in IS but says he was not involved in the planning + killing of hostages.

He says that was carried out by Emwazi aka 'Jihadi John' who is now dead.

Elsheikh claims he was tortured by Kurdish forces into making false statements about his actions.
