Saint Michael's Line 🧵
The Saint Michael Line is a line of monasteries built from the 6th to the 13th century dedicated to the Archangel Michael starting in Ireland and finishing in Israel.
The Sacred Line perfectly aligns with the sunset on the day of the Northern Hemisphere’s Summer Solstice.

It is referred to as the "Sword of St. Michael," said to represent the blow with which St. Michael sent the devil to hell.

While there is a lot of wisdom & value in stoicism. The hamartia of their philosophy is how they speak about anger.

Righteous anger has propelled the great deeds of men throughout history. Without it, men are dull & become consumed with the cleverness of their own thoughts. 🧵
In my view, there are two main forms of anger. Righteous anger and envious anger. We often see this dichotomy played out in our great stories.

Think of Achilles vs Agamemnon or Maximus vs Commodus.
Back to the stoics. This is how Marcus Aurelius speaks about anger.

“Keep this thought handy when you feel a fit of rage coming on—it isn’t manly to be enraged. Rather, gentleness and civility are more human, and therefore manlier. A real man doesn’t give way to anger and...

We've all heard the saying "Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times"

A short thread on why this isn't necessarily accurate.

🧵 Image
It's undoubtedly true that weak men destroy societies and inevitably create hard times, something we are witnessing first-hand in today's world. Image
It's also undoubtedly true that strong men can create good times. The creation of the greatest societies our world has ever seen lie at the feet of a few great men. Image

The Caryatids of Athens 🧵
Caryatids are draped, sculpted female figures, used as decorative support in place of columns or pillars, called in Greek Karyatides.
The most famous caryatids of Greece stand guard over the Erechtheion of the Acropolis, Athens.
In the ancient town of Karyes, Laconia, in the Peloponnese, was the sanctuary of Artemis Caryatis, (Artemis of the walnut tree).
The young girls, the maidens of Karyes; the Karyatides, watched over and cared for the sanctuary where, each year, on the celebration of Artemis,

Ever see an entire ghost town of abandoned miniature castles?

🧵Thread on the very strange town of Burj Al Babas, Turkey.
The Burj Al Babas development project involved the construction of 732 three-story luxury castle villas, all characterized by elements of Gothic, English and American architecture.
Each villa went on the market for between $370,000 and $530,000. Despite some initial success, sales plummeted in 2018 leading the developer to file for bankruptcy.
