#Insiders regularly breaches Appendix 4 Code of Practice & associated standards; In relation to the way climate energy & political parties are represented. Misinformation disinformation bias & preference for political parties are all regularly breached. ImageImageImage
I'll be keeping a running log of all these breaches.
It's pointless making a formal complaint, as breaches related to these issues are cultural, normative and any formal complaint is treated as a territorial game by the editorial 'keeper'.
I suggest listening to Matthew England Naomi Oreskes talking about the way media and government partakes in "status quo bias" to normalise climate denial misinformation & disinformation;

22 minute mark;
abc.net.au/radionational/…
"IS THIS HOW YOU FEEL?"
A project which asks climate scientists; "How does climate change make you feel"
Read the letters, think about the difference between Covid (top scientists 3 times a day) & climate change science etc, which is avoided.

Phil Coorey "The worst thing you can do to the business groups is leave (concessions & negotiations) this thing at the mercy of The Greens" -bias / scare tactic
Waves hand to make a graph while talking about 43% & net zero by 2050 - doubt by experts
#1 #Insiders

Phil Coorey 'The safeguard mechanism is essential to 43% cuts & net zero by 2050' waves hand in air while drawing a graph going down'

There have been doubts by experts for months that this could be achieved. Not fact that it would do what he says.

misinformation
#2 #Insiders
Phil Coorey

Net zero by 2050 and 43% cuts are both unsupported by the science, an important fact unmentioned.
#3 #Insiders
Phil Coorey

On negotiation & concessions to Safeguard mechanism;
"the worst thing you can do to the business groups is leave this thing at the mercy of The Greens"

Not fact.. when Labor negotiated with the Greens Australia had our best policy yet, Julia G. gov.

David Speers

"The Greens are saying 'this is not tough enough'. They want some guarantees around no new coal & gas. "This is the 'mantra' for the Greens.

Supported by all climate science (+ oil, Catherine Murphy)

'Mantra", a demeaning word - probably
#5 #Insiders

Andrew Probyn

In mentioning 'gas will be around for quite some time'

"Gas may be one way to deliver hydrogen which is the cleanest of fuels"

Not by making hydrogen using gas. Disinformation

Phil Coorey

"Greens will push the pure idealistic options/future. This SGM applies to 200, puts on trajectory 43% .. "Are the Greens going to put the perfect before the good again"

Historical Codswallop

History 27:30 minute;
abc.net.au/radionational/…
Further to this odious meme 'The greens want to let the perfect be the enemy of the good'.

I'd like any journalist to explain why (when they omit temperature) 1.5C-2C is perfect (when we know we likely won't make that), but +2- 4.5C is good?
It took me hours to find everything I wanted to lead with, then quickly watch this episode before it's nuked. Tomorrow I'll try to work my way through the rest on Iview.

David Speers

The gov says its planned changes to the mechanism will take some 200 million tonnes of carbon out of the atmosphere, will you seriously vote against that?

Adam Bandt; The gov's policy doesn't do that

No proof gov policy will

David Speers
"So it doesn't reduce emissions at all"

- Straw man

Moving on to potential gotcha

David Speers
"Has any other country banned new coal and gas"

(asked 5 or 6 times)

Adam doesn't know, suggests 'countries are looking at that'
Says the IEA has said 'there should be no new mining'

David Speers knows that. But not his own question.

There are 5 countries; Ireland Spain Denmark Belize Greenland & France.

His question seemingly suggests the idea is unprecedented. It isn't.

euronews.com/green/2021/08/…
#9 #Insiders

David Speers asks what *cost of no new mines would be?

Adam Bandt says foregoing royalties, but taxing fossil fuel co's would raise money which could help consumers. Adam says damages to farmers already costs $30,000 pa. Speers cuts conversation.

Narrow ?

Shane Wright says gas is "relatively cheap energy"

Despite all evidence which shows renewables +storage +batteries are cheaper than existing.
#11 Insiders 26/2/2023

The term 'net zero' used constantly with no attempt to utilise its Paris twin - 1.5C-2.0C asap. It's a mechanical term. By avoiding th physical science of temperature Australian journalists & gov avoid actual scrutiny of the effectiveness of climate policy
#12 Insiders

The Safeguard Mechanism is dodgy as F

Time would be better spent #Insiders if journalists who understand it, were invited.

The CPRS Experience;

Mark Kenny
Its been a dominant backdrop to this debate. The fact that the Greens stood in the way of the CPRS back in 2009. Here we are 14 years later. We don't have any economy wide mechanism for reducing emissions. This is the best shot..
at some level of that. The Greens can't be seen as blocking & wrecking & the gov knows that.'

- They know that - because blaming the Greens is what journalists do, without back story, perspective, fact or rationality Image
Journalists have led this particular climate war topic with biased fervour, & no fact

My questions would be;
How effective & cost effective was the CPRS?
Does Labor admit Kevin designed a dud?
Why didn't Labor negotiate with the Greens at that time?
Has Labor learned anything?

India trade.

John Kehoe;

But also, Indias's a massive massive consumer of coal and gas, & so you juxtapose that against our safeguard mechanism debate where Albanese's saying gas is going to be a big transition fuel for us. India wants more of
John Kehoe continued;

those fossil fuel resources. The Greens are saying 'no, we want to close those down. There's a disconnect there.

Misinformation and disinformation;

Science
Gas oil & coal are all no longer transition fuels. Image
cont;

Also. Greens policies don't go as far as the science tells us, and their policies don't say "We want to close those down"

They're currently saying the very least Au should do is 'not open new, or expand existing'

*stereotype trope, no fact.

#14 #Insiders @abcnews 19/3

China threat conversation.

By repeatedly avoiding climate change honestly as a topic (eg far greater realistic threat than China,) Insiders remains unbalanced & partisan;

Saturday Paper editorial; Image
#15 #Insiders @abcnews

Greg Sheridan; "We know in reality that carbon markets have been incredibly ineffective in reducing emissions. There's a tonne of research that shows carbon prices and markets have had no effect."

disinformation 1;

Greg Sheridan disinfo 2

Greg 's making up facts, has no credibility. His disinformation is damaging to public culture & isn't fact checked.

Estimating the CO2 emission and revenue effects of carbon pricing: new evidence from a cross country dataset;

#16 #Insiders @abcnews

Greg Sheridan

"The European Union now accepts gas as basically a clean fuel, it's much cleaner than coal"

Double doozie there;

No they don't, here is their ten step plan which includes phasing it out faster than intended;

iea.org/news/how-europ… Image
#17 #Insiders @abcnews

Greg Sheridan on his second point, 'gas is cleaner than coal';
Methane leakage has been vastly under measured or properly accounted for, & given it's 84 times more potent than CO2 over 20 years, it's now considered similarly as dangerous as coal
David Speers discusses 4 more working days in the coming week for the Greens to do a deal on the SGM.

Jennifer Hewett talks about the NSW elections and observes that Labor won't compromise and the 'elder statesman' Bob Brown having strong "views" will be ignored.
#18 #Insiders @abcnews

Jennifer Hewett

"In the end, the risk of this just going down, he's (A.B.) not going to be blamed for that"

Misinformation - there's no proof the SGM will cut 43% emissions, also it risks *locking in non decarbonisation

No SGM fact check by #Insiders
@abcnews #19 #Insiders @abcnews

David Crowe

"Environmental groups are telling Adam Bandt, 'look, back the SM, you can campaign on other issues as well, but get the mechanism in place"

Selection of journalists who have zero climate/energy expertise

disinformation and misinformation; ImageImageImage
@abcnews #20

After mis-representing what 'Enviro Groups' said & not naming 'them', the political consensus on #Insiders is that "You can improve it later" - JH

No discussion of concerns by these groups, or significantly *experts;

misinformation's an editorial view #Insiders? Image
David Speers then talks about what the IPCC "lobbed into this debate ... particularly relevant point in the context of what the Greens are demanding in Australia" ... adjectives

*Antonio Guterres;
No new coal, phasing out coal by 2030 in OECD countries - 2040 in all other
countries. Ending all international public & private funding of coal. Ensuring net zero electricity generation by 2035for all developed countries & 2040 for the rest of the world. Ceasing all licensing or funding of new oil & gas"

The *issue is climate change Image
#21

Dan reiterates that the Greens are "demanding no new coal & gas" then asks if Labor is going to say no to the secretary general as well? .. laughter

'Difficulty for the greens, "never let the perfect be the enemy of the good", another *trope used to describe Greens policy
Conversation moves onto NSW state Labor having won, & no intention of Labor ceasing new coal & gas.

David Speers
"Still, they're even extending the life of Eraring power station", evidence?
#22 Jennifer Hewett
"They know there's going to be a problem with renewables", err🤦‍♀️
Another #Insiders full of climate & energy innuendo misinformation disinformation bias, lack of fact and a complete lack of insight into what climate change means for Australians.

This programmes politicised nature & leaning's, made it a political 'player' - it's a disservice.
Because #Insiders @abcnews spends more current & historically, on 'supposed' problems for the Greens, rather than the current Labor government, this is a cartoon not included this week.
